Vanity - FR Blocking Certain News Sites Inhibits Debate
July 8, 2011

Posted on 07/08/2011 5:24:08 PM PDT by khnyny

Short vanity - sorry for the rant, but I just tried to post an article to FR that is from a "blocked source". I don't agree with every premise in the article, but feel that it constituted a starting point for a very good discussion. In my humble opinion, FR blocking posts from certain sites based on idealogical biases is counter-productive to a real discussion and examination of issues.

I remember the old Free Republic and it was a little wild and wooly, but it also had a more lively intellectual flavor where dissenting opinions and creativity were allowed. What say you?

Ok, just asking a question. Censorship is not a dirty word, and as I mentioned in an earlier post, I thought it might be a copyright issue, but wasn’t sure. So Huffington does not allow FR to post their articles? If so, another reason Huffington should go down in flames, in my opinion.

Facts mean so much to a post, and by golly I know facts when I see them. Unfortunately facts seem to allude so many.

I’d say inhibited debate is the perogative [why does’t the FR spell chequer know how to spell perogative/] of the site’s owner, and of the copyright holders that one intends to quote at length on such site.

These “blocked” sites will sue FR for posting their articles.

That is why they are blocked.

FR Blocking Certain News Sites Inhibits Debate

Not nearly so much as banning members who support unapproved candidates.

Uhhhh, your ideological enemies DON'T want a real discussion and examination of issues. That's what the "copyright" bludgeon is all about.

Do you need a little FR history refresher?

Many sites on FR are blocked either due to copyright complaint or at the request of the site owner. Had you considered that before you wrote this rant?

I suggest you find a site that allows you to post anything you like rather than whine about restrictions at FR.

This would be like quilting people into acceoting deviate behavior by saying if they don’t accept it, they’re ‘closed minded’

Personnally, I never cared if someone thought I was closed minded to their bs

Unfortunately facts seem to allude so many.

Golly, there's lots of facts in a dictionary. Try it.

Huff and Puff seems to be pretty OCD about its copyright, even trying to prohibit reproduction of comments added to their site-

Ok, number one, I’m a monthly donor to FR - so if you want to make snap judgements, so be it.

Second, it would be nice to think that we are all on the same side and want what’s best for our country and given that, would try to respect one another on this forum.

You appear to be fighting tyranny and the spell-checker at the same time. ;)

Kudos.

You know, it’s disappointing to me that some innocuous post could generate such animosity, lol. How in the world are we going to become a cohesive conservative unit and win 2012? Imho, that will be the challenge - there is just so much anger, mistrust and paranoia.

JimRob did it just to tick you off. All kidding aside, there are some sites that I scan just for the comic relief that the articles provide, but, even though I might link to it in a thread I wouldn't post the article itself because it brings nothing to the discussion worth noting.
