Swilling coffee may protect men against prostate cancer
Guys who drank six cups a day had least risk, says study that debunks long-ago findings

Coffee is good for men, according to research released Tuesday from the Harvard School of Public Health. Those who who drank the most coffee regular or decaffeinated have the least risk for prostate cancer, especially the deadliest forms of the disease, the 12-year study of almost 48,000 male health professionals found.
But, wait! Almost exactly 30 years ago this same lab in a separate study concluded that in men and women coffee increased the risk of pancreatic cancer, which is almost always deadly. That study got widespread publicity, but not long afterward the researchers said: "Oops, we made a mistake." Coffee, they said, has no effect on the risk of pancreatic cancer.
That flip-flop from such a prestigious institution contributed greatly to the public distrust of the science of epidemiology and the widespread perception that one day they say something is good for us and the next day they say it is bad.
Today's news seems pretty clear. Men who drank the most coffee, six cups or more daily, had a 60 percent lower risk of developing lethal prostate cancer and 20 percent lower risk of developing any form of the disease, according to the study published in the online edition of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

All bitter foods prevent cancer.
Seriously. It’s the common link I see with all this stuff.
That’s why I drink beer: hops.
yeah, but considering where you’d have to spill it, is it worth it?
ONLY 6 CUPS???
Then, I shouldn’t have to worry about prostate cancer till I’m about 386 years old!
6 cups? Lightweights.
LOL If I were gay I could cure prostate cancer.
Looks like the turd burglars are outta luck with me.
Coffee consumption has also been tied to lower risk of Parkinsons disease. Moderate beer consumption is also associated with lower chance of heart disease. Solution: Chase six cups of coffee with one bottle of beer. Pee. Repeat as needed
Six? I do six in one gulp!
I had to give up coffee as it was causing problems with my heart and prostate. Now I have to work out in the morning to get the same charge as a couple cups of joe. joe was a simpler way to start the day. but a good workout does have its benefits.
My husband should be fully covered then - he drinks coffee all day long and even into the night. Caffeine has never bothered him, whereas if I drink iced tea after about 8pm I won’t be asleep before 3am!
“I’m still waiting for the day smoking will be good for everyone. It’ll happen. It’s green”
Saying this, without humor , the cigarette companies have paid for studies that do indeed show that exact premise. And those studies are no more flawed than 90% of studies such as this one.
TRY THIS!
OTHER THAN THE NIACIN RUSH (WHICH MAY TURN YOUR SKIN ANOTHER COLOR) YOU'RE GOOD! TRY IT! REALLY! TRY IT!
“Coffee consumption has also been tied to lower risk of Parkinsons disease.”
Remember, that’s ‘lower’ risk, not ‘no’ risk. My Dad died from Parkinsons and he probably drank 15 cups a day. There is however pretty close to a vaccine against Parkinsons, which I’ll talk about in the answer that follows.
6 cups just makes you pee the cancer out.
I have read that fresh coffee is the greatest source of anti-oxidants for most Americans.
Have a piece of dark chocolate with it and you’ll never rust!!
I gave up coffee in February of 2010, so that ain’t gonna work for me.
Now, the ‘title’ is suspect, but, apparently orgasms are a great way to prevent prostate cancer, as well.

Well there is one that WASN’T paid for by the cigarette companies, but I still wouldn’t go so far as to say smoking is good for you.
My Dad passed away from Parkinson’s. In the years leading up to that we did a lot of research on this killer. Probably the most surprising thing we learned is that smoking is almost a vaccine against Parkinson’s! Smokers coming down with Parkinson’s are very rare, almost statistically insignificant.
I don’t think it is a reason to smoke, but it would be wonderful if someday they could isolate the compound that is having this effect and offer it as a pill.
