Hi everyone! It's time again for my "What Are You Reading?" thread.
As you know, I consider Freepers to be among the more well-read of those of us on the Internet. I like to find out what all of you are reading these days.
It can be anything...a technical journal, a NY Times best seller, a classic work of fiction, a trashy pulp novel. In short, it can be anything.
However, please do not defile this thread by posting "I'm reading this thread". it became really unfunny a long time ago.
I'll start. I'm about 15% of the way thru "Henry Clay: The Essential American" by David & Jeanne Heidler. Many books have been written on Henry Clay but this one seems to be the most comprehensive. At times, the authors can be a little long-winded - but all in all, it's a good book about one of the giants of the early 19th Century.

What a fantastic book! Nonfiction. It's all about 6 "ordinary" citizens of North Korea, and their stories about life under communism, which they escaped.
This should be required reading for every snot-nose punk college kid who thinks that socialism could possibly work.
How this book escaped being bestseller is beyond comprehension.
Please read it immediately.
Just finished reading “Endurance Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage” and “One Second After”. Am also reading “The Fatal Shore”.
It is a good series but his Dresden Files series is much better in my opinion.
You're right, I shouldn't apologize. I can't be the only one who needs something lighter occasionally. Next up is Mark Levin's Liberty and Tyranny, I think.
3/4 of the way through Don't Touch Me by Howie Mandel, which I highly recommend for its humor and for its dealing with obsessive-compulsive-disorder (OCD).
I’d probably finish books faster if I could just stick with one, but I’m too flaky. I think it’s my A-D-D kicking in.
I have a short attention span.

Is that new, or have we read it already? I just re-read "Dragon" and "Issola," because they're the ones we have sitting around. The baby kept coming up and nattering about the artwork on the covers; he's not used to lizards' having wings.
DeMille is awesome. I haven’t picked up The Lion yet, but I can’t wait. I’ve read all the others (Gold Coast twice).
“Annals of the Former World” by John McPhee. It traces what is currently known of the Earth’s tectonic history over the past four and a half thousand million years. Beautifully written, damned sobering! It makes me realize what arrogant little transitory creatures we humans are.
Just finished Heaven is for Real - despite the bad review I read on FR, I enjoyed it. About to finish Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel - about Henry 8 - way too wordy and convoluted, and am enjoying Cleopatra: A Life.
Why would you say that?
Thanks for the suggestion. I've read books in the past about Stalingrad. I'll have to give Beevor's book a try. I like his writing style.
