The latest GPU3 client is now on our high performance client download page. This new client improves GPU identification and has several other minor improvements.
For those who are unfamiliar with the other FAH clients: there are several types of high performance clients. SMP refers to multi-core CPUs. GPU3 refers to the latest generation Folding@home GPU client. Currently, GPU3 is only available for NVIDIA GPUs, but we are working on a GPU3 release for ATI. For NVIDIA GPUs, we recommend GPU3. For ATI, we suggest GPU2 until GPU3 has passed through its QA testing (going on now). Finally, the v7 Folding@home client (currently in alpha testing) has these functions (SMP and GPU) built in and will not require a special client.
The changes to this version of the client include the addition of a -forcegpu flag ='nvidia_g80_1.0' ; this flag will signal a compute capability of 1.0 (GPU species=10); if the flag ''nvidia_g80' is used the compute capability will be reported as 1.1 (GPU species=11). Also a pop-up dialog box now appears reporting an error, if the -forcegpu flag is unrecognized; the client then exits.
Yep! I find I’m number 127 among FReepers from the old days. Let’s see if we can move that up!
Thanks for the ping; it’s been a long time.
I need to figure out why my ppd is falling. and I have not changed a thing. I’ll switch to GPU3 and see what that does. Currently have 3 video cards in the mix, all EBGA brand: GTS250, GTX285 Classified, and GTX470. Would the new GPU engine help any of these cards?
Also building a new system from discount parts that will run a GTX 5-series (580?!?!).....C
When I switched over, I had to stop all folding and erase the directories, starting completely over. Loading was a breeze once I did that, with the old libraries gone.
The 5xx GPU’s are supposed to be 2x times as fast under v3.
Looks like the GTX 580 may bust 20k ppd by itself ...

Congrats!! What’s your rig?
FYI:
StatGFX.com
“StatGFX has been shut down. I sincerely thank all those that have used and supported this service in the past. It was a great experience, and I enjoyed very much building and maintaining this site, however I no long have the time or interest to continue it.”
fahstats.com
“NOTICE: This domain name expired on 02/23/2011 and is pending renewal or deletion”
7-8 CPU consoles (maybe 1,200 ppd)
1 PS3 (maybe 1,000 ppd)
I can't always keep the folding going on my son's PS3 and 2 clients on his laptop. SweetiePalm's CPU is only good for about 2,000 points a week.

Team User Info New 0 (-1 ) Active 71 (+1 ) Inactive 564 Total 635 Avg PPD 2,211.5 February 27, 2011
Clipped and modded this from Extreme Overclocking Folding.
The 'Active' are those adding points in the past week, and not an indication that the 'Inactive' ones are not contributing. Every fold helps; I no longer have my WinME active as they ran out of WUs for the platform, but keep my WinXP desktop and WinVista laptop plugging away.
Folding and Freeping - two ways to contribute!
Cheers. :^)
I’m currently running an older client from an older system.
My PPD is rather low and should be much higher.
Folding@Home Client Version 6.23 Built 11/26/08
....................Assembly optimizations on if available.
....................Extra SSE boost OK
....................running as a service (always running, system always on)
Which newer FAH client would work best for my system?
Any suggestions (and links) would be appreciated.

I have not seen the 6800 used in GPU folding and I will heartily recommend an upgrade there.
Offer to you (and potentially other FReepers):
I have an NVidia GTX 220 that is good for a few thousand ppd by itself on the older GPU client. I have run out of computers to put it into, due to the Chief Asset Managers’ space requirements.
If I give it to you would you use it for folding?
Please FReep mail me if interested.
Other FReepers, stay tuned to see what else is I have that is usable for donations to new F@H rigs.
Does the GPU client run under Linux?
Still working on it.

It’s going to take a while to move up.
I forgot how fun this is, went to look, it gave me 1 work unit when I logged back in, which is finished. The one they gave me this AM isn’t going to finish until 22 Mar. LOL! Says it’s using 4 slots - guess that’s my processors.
Your system has some overhead to just run.
LOL
Thanks for your response.
I should have indicated that it was a rhetorical question, heheh.
The available memory is the amount not being used by the system, open apps, and TSR apps. When I posted those specs, I had 1.99 GB available or ‘free’.
Currently, I have a lot more loaded and running, so I only have 1.25 GB available.
I really have to crank up a lot of apps, web page windows, and streaming data from the internet to fall below 1 GB free. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever gone much below what it is right now, LOL.
I really do appreciate your response - no one else caught the question or they knew I joke around a lot and didn’t bother to reply.
BTW, I’ve made it up to 103 on the FReeper FAH team. Once I figure out which core client will do best on my system, I think I’ll break 100 pretty quick.
RT, you might try running the SMP client on your quad core. Would be close, but it’s worth a shot. Also. be sure to get the user ID key. This is good for a few extra points......C
BTW....a 6800 graphics card won’t fold....needs to run DX10
Thanks for the info on the NVidia GeForce 6800
I didn’t know if it would help or not.
What I currently have installed is:
Adapter Type....................RS780 (0x9610), ATI Technologies Inc. compatible
Adapter Description..........ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics
Adapter RAM..................128.00 MB (134,217,728 bytes)
I’m not sure if it has an ability to fold, but I don’t want to change it out right now.
The SMP client sounds interesting. Do you think it will make better use of my quad core than my current client (Version 6.23 Built 11/26/08)?
Task Manager always shows the FAH core using 25% CPU, so I assume it is using all of 1 of the 4 processors with the other 3 running the other apps.
If I were still running DR-Dos 6.1 on my 80286 with my Rampage card and Desqview, I would know exactly how to configure it, LOL.
(Then again, I wouldn’t know how many years it would take to fold 1 work unit, hahaha.)
;^D
