A great video featuring the first Blue Angels (F8F Bearcats) flying with the current Blue Angels (F/A-18D Hornets).

Now that is awesome. God Bless our military - past and present. My dad was a gunner in a B-17 so I’ve always loved looking at them when they come to an airshow - or fly over on the way to/from a show like one did last summer. If it excites me that much, how would my dad feel if he were still alive and saw one up close? Machines of war, for sure, but striking examples of American technology down through the years. Has to make you proud, just has to.

SONOBUOY PING!
Click on pic for past Navair pings.
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

This would be a great place to save some money. Everyone knows the Blue Angles, Thunder Birds, and other tax payer flying shows are old and redundant. Cut them out and save the gas used for training and shows.

Went to an airshow many years back, and saw a pilot in a Bearcat outfly a guy in an F4U Corsair. It was great!

Makes you proud, proud, proud.
My son will be commissioned from the USNA this spring and will be heading to flight school in Pensacola to join their ranks. Makes you proud, proud, proud.

But I did beat the ping. Allow me to gloat a little, that doesn't happen often with all of the enthusiastic pingers I have pinging me to threads like this.
I do appreciate the pings, I couldn't run the pinglist without them, but it is nice to get to one first for a change.

BooBoo, you are of course, entitled to your opinion.
However, I bet you would find that a large number of military pilots, air crew, and technicians were inspired to achieve their goal after they saw the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds at an airshow when they were just kids.
It remains that these flight demonstration teams are effective recruiting tools.
Money well-spent?
I think so.

When hubby’s family had their reunions in Perdido Key, we used to take the kids over to the Pensacola Naval Air Station to watch the Blue Angels on their practice days. They are most gracious young men who take time to talk to the folks who come to watch them! They put on a great show, even when they’re only practicing!
