NFL, NFLPA agree to enter mediation

NEW YORK -- Less than three weeks from the expiration of the collective bargaining agreement, the NFL and its players union agreed Thursday to mediation in their labor dispute.
The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, an independent U.S. government agency, will oversee negotiations in Washington beginning Friday.
FMCS director George H. Cohen can make suggestions and recommendations, but he has no authority to impose settlements. Coming to an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement still will be up to the two parties.
"Our agency director will be working with the parties to assist them in reaching a voluntary, mutually acceptable agreement," FMCS public affairs director John Arnold said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

Personally, I think they should chop the price of a ticket in half (at least), and sell hamburgers, hot dogs, freedom fries and bottled water at the games for a buck each. Half time shows should be limited to marching bands.
That worked OK for me because every game has been on local TV here now since Parcells took the helm, and things got even more improved since.
If you eliminate pass-interference, you should also eliminate holding.
Let O-linemen hold and DBs do what they gotta do.
If you have any doubts about that, just think about how alarmed the management of teams like the Giants and Jets must have been after they built that new stadium in the New Jersey Meadowlands. In the old stadium the Giants had a waiting list for season tickets that had tens of thousands of names on it, and -- and it would have taken someone in, say, the #5,000 spot from the top of the list at least 15-20 years to get to the top of the list.
Once they built the new stadium and imposed the personal seat license (PSL) arrangement, the Giants went through the entire waiting list in a matter of weeks and still couldn't sell all of their season tickets.

Sure, the owners may publicly support Richardson, but I think if the stories from multiple news sources are true that Richardson berated Peyton Manning and Drew Brees during a negotiating session, small wonder why a Federal mediator has shown up and Richardson could get the "heave ho."
The way the NFLPA head has been talking you wouldn’t think it, but they do seem to have figured out that publicly arguing over who gets to spend that billion dollars (the core of the financial dispute) during a bad economy won’t do anything good for PR or future revenues.
