Sarah Palin needs to rein in her harsh feminist rhetoric
Daily Caller ^ | 2/13/11 | Carey Roberts

I applaud Sarah Palin’s passion, her adroit sense of humor, and her you-go-girl! gumption. But the more I learn about Sarah Palin, the more I become perplexed by her over-heated gender-bending rhetoric.

I believe we can all agree that men and women should have equal opportunities. But let’s not confuse equal opportunities with identical outcomes. Just because a woman has the same right to an education and a decent job doesn’t mean she will pursue the identical career path, toil as long, or work as many years as a man.

Men and women have differing proclivities and interests — most Americans understand this fact. But then there is the small band of disaffected feminists who adamantly insist any and all social differences are the product of gender discrimination.

So where does the former vice-presidential candidate stand on all of this?

Let’s take the gender wage gap. Dozens of studies show that when the relevant factors are taken into account — training, experience, hours worked, and so forth — any salary difference is smaller than a twinkle in Nancy Pelosi’s eye.

But during the 2008 presidential campaign, Palin used the myth to skewer her Democratic opponent. Ignoring the fact that most of the top-level staffers in Obama’s former Senate office were male, she made this charge: “Out on the stump he talks a good game about equal pay for equal work, but according to the Senate payroll records, women on his own staff get just 83 cents for every dollar that the men get.”

Ratcheting up women’s sense of resentment, Palin then asked, “Does he think that the women aren’t working as hard? Does he think they are 17% less productive?”

Just for the record, folks, Carey Roberts appears to be a man. Either that or a really, really ugly old woman.

RINO whine by a “man” who can’t measure up to Sarah’s intellect.

This old goat (and I’m not even talking about pissant here) should lay off of Palin. It’s not as if she was herself researching Congressional staff salaries and going on some sort of crusade. As it is, detractors complain that she didn’t go along well enough with the script that McCain’s staff was giving her.

She has the intellect of Gloria Steinem, her husband isn’t the head of the family and she’s a proud champion of illegitimacy, casual sex and single parenthood!

Get real! If she had a “D” beside her name, she’d be denounced by people on this board. Call yourself a Republican and counter-cultural values become perfectly acceptable! The woman is not a conservative!

[Not sure if its feminism or brainlessism, either way its pathetic. ]

You are unhinged pissant. What next, are you going to start posting anti-Palin scribblings from down at the insane asylum? At this point, you are the brunt of jokes, a rabid buffoon.

Right.... the same kind of posters who defended Guiliani, Romney and Arnold on here. Her lifestyle and values contradict conservative tenets.

But its alright as long as she talks the talk.

Hey, I’m all for “equal pay for equal work”...

if you take into account
length of time in the workforce,
amount of time taken off,
general productivity, etc...

when these factors are taken into account,
women are actually being paid MORE than men for equal “work”.

The author of your hit-piece certainly does define “brainless”. As does your idiotic crusade to carry our political enemies water for them.

"Harsh rhetoric" may be, well, harsh rhetoric. But I'm pretty tired of Palin's continual woman-empowerment talk.

Her life, itself, is a perfect example of women's ability to succeed. She should quit talking about it and get on with economics, the budget and foreign policy.

I've got to say that she's losing me.

The contrast with Margaret Thatcher is revealing. Though she came to power at a time when women had fewer rights, she rarely (if ever) made an issue of her gender.

The author is a conservative. As am I. Much moreso than the Palin fanclub, apparently. I don’t like Title XI affirmative action supporting, amnesty pimping, TARP cheerleading, sovereignty-killing LOST promoting, DADT repeal acquiescing, global warming believing, semi conservatives all that much

It’s almost as if the writer is trying to divert us from the obvious fact that Sarah Palin would be a better president than Obama.

Though I’m starting to think Pee Wee Herman would be better than Obama.

One coin ... two sides. The article's author asserts the dominance of men in Obama's Senate office in top-level positions, and defends the subsequent pay differential that causes by gender. Sarah, viewing Obama's cabinet through the lens of her own experience, questions why the work would differ from cabinet member to cabinet member and stresses equal pay for equal work. I don't see a "win" for either point of view as they are arrived at through different assertions. Much ado about nothing ...
