Instead of singing the lyrics Oer the ramparts we watchd, were so gallantly streaming, Xtina sang the line What so proudly we watched at the twilights last gleaming.
Aguileras representatives sent Speakeasy this statement from the singer: I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.

The NFL ought to at least ask each act whether they even know the words to the anthem. When they are done yodeling it w/out mistake then they can be paid.

She was thinking about Twinkies. Either that or she was worried about how that double chin looked on television.

By the way, I wish these celebrities would just sing it and not try to "enhance" it or style it. The last time it became a Top 40 song, Whitney Houston sang it when she was at the top of her game and the country was at a very emotional moment, so it made it special.
And many of the latest crop of liberals weren't born yet.

"translation..... I got so caught up making it all about "me" with my stupid nassely vocalizing that I forgot it's supposed to be about my country."Exactly. I can understand maybe getting nervous or emotional and botching the lyrics to a song, but not this one. It should be as automatic as brushing your teeth. What really irritated me was not the mistake, but bastardizing the song with all the artistic impression, voice inflection, etc. Just sing the Anthem...it's not about your career this time.

She didn't make up some lame excuse (wardrobe malfunction?).

I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through. All I felt, other than being pissed that yet another decent singer screws up the national anthem, is a small appreciation for instant karma.
She made the honor of singing our national anthem all about her singing and she screwed it up royally.
With all that talent and ability, she could have watered my eyes and put a patriotic lump in my throat with the anthem. Instead, I just wanted to change the channel.

Since she’s gone to the war zone and given our troops morale boosters, I’m willing to give her a pass on this one.

One of those ‘sex symbols’ declared as such by her management. Everyone nods assent despite the truckloads of evidence to the contrary starting with the makeup she trowels on for every public appearance including a run to the coffee shop.

My comment on it was "They need to get rid of the raving syphilitic showboats and bring in someone from the military community who will honor the anthem rather than "yodeling" something completely unrecognizable."
I stole the "yodeling" comment from a freeper, who's observation was funny and spot on accurate.

She made the honor of singing our national anthem all about her singing and she screwed it up royally. I agree. It was all about "her". I didn't feel any "love for this country" from her performance.
I think the NFL should adopt a policy of having the bands from the various branches of the military play the Anthem. Let it be on a rotating basis so that every branch gets to do it every four years. Trust me, those folks will NOT screw it up, and it won't be all about THEM.
...OR they could give that tramp from this year a "do over" next year. She could come out and play the Anthem on the kazoo.
Or better yet, a dog whistle. /s

Lucky for me, I missed it. I don’t care how many troops she has “entertained”, the National Anthem is not about the singer.

I bet she just didn't want to sing such a violent verse...(Oer the ramparts we watchd, were so gallantly streaming,).
The left can be very picky about that, ya know....

Let me convert this to English:
“I was so distracted by the sex that I had back stage with Slash... the lines of cocaine that I snorted... and the half pint of Jim Beam that I guzzled before the show... I was so crocked I could not remember my name... do I really look like Cindy Lauper?”
