Need some advice for peace of mind of the wife and I. We have a beautiful baby boy, almost 4 mos. old (next week) that had a high fever last weekend before Christmas. Monday we took him in and Dr. said that his cold/upper respiratory infection has given him a secondary inner ear infection ( acute otitis media (AOM).
The good Dr. gave us Cifdinir (Omnicef) 3/4 TSP for 10 days and thankfully his fever has gone. However, this Christmas has been a nightmare for Mom and I due to his frequent waking and screaming. His schedule over Christmas was sleep 45 minutes, wake screaming for half an hour, and then take an hour to get back to bed. So for every half hour he sleeps, Mom and Dad DONT sleep for 2 hours.
New symptom this AM is when we went to give him a warm bath, we noticed green/yellow fluid in the ear that he tugs at and you cannot touch without setting him off. We called the Dr. Exchange and got a nurse to call back that said to keep giving infant tylenol and maybe to try olive oil 3 drops, every 3 hours until they can see him Mon 8AM.
This is the same black nurse that said to alternate Ibuprofen and Tylenol (which is a BIG NO NO in <6mos) so of course, I questioned her methods.
I called a family friend who is an ER pediatrican and he said that he had NEVER heard of olive oil as a remedy, but heard that blacks like to use something called "sweet water", but doesn't suggest its use.
Anways, Dr. friend said that we are doing the right thing with Tylenol every 4 hours (0.8 ML/every 4 hours) and keeping up with the Omnicef (Cifdinir) and to just deal with it.
Sweet oil is a very light olive oil and yes, it does help soothe an earache. It won’t hurt your son, although it may not help either. I’ve used it for swimmer’s ear with mixed results.
It is time to take him to a 24 hour urgent care.
Agree! DO NOT put olive oil (or anything not prescribed by the doctor) in that ear until you find out if he's "blown the eardrum". Upon occasion an eardrum will develop a small hole that the infection drains out of - that green/yellow fluid.
IF he has a hole in the eardrum, you can permanently damage his hearing by putting liquid in the ear.
Please take him to a hospital now. My friend’s 10 month old died from an ear infection that had symptoms like this.
Spot on. The advice about drugs masking the fever is something all new parents should be told.
I would be very cautious about putting anything in your little guy’s ear. He might have a perforated ear drum and putting oil into it would not just affect the ear canal and outer drum but would be introduced into middle ear. Please take him to an urgent care or ER and have his ear seen by a dr. Be sure to tell them he is on meds but that this is a new development and he seems to have gotten worse.

These ear infections can turn nasty. With the symptoms you describe the baby needs to be seen. Now.

Hey, I’m a pediatrician and just wanted to let you know that I would NOT put any drops in your baby’s ear. It sounds like his ear drum may have ruptured which can happen in ear infections. Normally the drops can relieve pressure from the ear infection and are fine, but should never be used if there is a ruptured ear drum. No permenant damage should come from the infection/rupture. If your baby is feeling better, you can wait until tomorrow to get a recheck, but if still running fevers or very fussy have a doctor look at him today. And you are correct no motrin until at least 6 mo age. Mrs Stosh

In a child that young you cannot safely ignore any infection in the head and neck. Green drainage is a nasty sign. Go to the ER or equivalent asap. The antibiotic did not do its job.

chop an onion and place it in a muslin cloth and tie it (gently) over the head sop that the onion is over the ear ...
Take the baby to a good Chiropractor. As a chiro myself, I have seen an upper cervical adjustments knock out ear infections.
This is just an observation from a non-medical person who has raised 5 babies and exposed to thousands of situations of young motherhood. I am also a very rigid follower of that rare “common sense” type of thinking.
I find that nature takes care of most problems for babies. Your body is designed to function properly when you nurse your baby and do not have any vaccinations until after 6 months (at least). The brain has no natural barrier at birth so any toxins will go straight to the brain (and all vaccinations have added toxins). Young babies can not excrete the toxins out of the body, so they will enter the brain. Maturation eventually creates a brain barrier.
I have never had vaccinations for my kids until after 6 months and none had ear trouble. I also nursed solely for those months. None of my five children had “tubes” put in ears. None of my babies screamed bloody murder at night except very rarely if they had a temperature and were sick which happened rarely which Tylenol always relieved.
They also were never in a “day care” exposed to an unnatural amount of germs or “too many germs” all at once which is not natural. They entered a “preschool” for a few hours a week at three and then were sick more often but hardly where they were incapacitated.
I have read much about vaccinations and some “side effects” listed for certain shots— that there can be piercing screams for hours after vaccination. Why? Unbelievable!!! Screaming that is unresponsive to a parent’s soothing is very unnatural for any baby unless something is causing enormous pain.
My observation of the pharmaceutical company where profits are greatest if shots made mandatory is that although vaccination damages the millions of “healthy” people.....money is the bottom line. They don’t care. Is there a reason government would allow millions of people to be intentionally injected with toxins and possibly harmed? Hmmmm.
With the cultural Marxists in power—they absolutely have ulterior motives. They want a mass of damaged, emotionally and physical cripples (and in need of trillions of dollars of pills). They can control the masses easier especially if they are dependent on drugs. They hated the individualistic, Christian population because of their independence and disdain for government interference.
I am not against some vaccinations, but know there is risk in every vaccination and that the risk/results have to be carefully evaluated which young people never do anymore. They just accept that vaccinations do no damage (intense billion dollar marketing) and just good....when they have to do damage because of the added toxins needed to produce the vaccine.
Never have so many vaccinations been forced on babies.....many are unnecessary for healthy mom’s and healthy babies like the Hep B one. It is a crime to inject that stuff in a newborn which is such an unnatural attack on the developing body. It always will harm something...because of the toxins and manner of injection...and cause the baby to develop differently than naturally. The animal studies show that this vaccination damages development of infant monkeys. Why do we force this vaccination on healthy people?????????Logic can never justify putting those toxins (3x’s) into a newborn. It is a crime and I would never listen to a pediatrician that claims it does no harm. It is a lie.
I have observed many young parents that have trouble with “screaming” infants. Infants should never be screaming unless they are in extreme discomfort which means something is hurting them. It is unnatural and should not be happening unless something is seriously wrong.
Just observations from years of working with children. All parents should NEVER take a government seeped in Marxist ideology to be truthful about anything. I would always take the opposite advice of government concerning the raising of a child. The feminist and homosexual movements are trying to destroy the natural family and the healthy bonding of a happy child/parent...because there is nothing so beautiful and powerful as that bond. They have a reason to destroy that bond and make parents easily give their babies to institutions to form their worldview. Nothing destroys the bond more than parents getting no sleep and babies constantly screaming. Wonder why that could be a side effect of vaccines?
God take care of your precious little one. I would try the natural remedies prior to the unnatural.
Our son had problems like that until he had tubes put in his ears at 2 to help them drain..

It sounds like the antibiotics didn’t knock it out the first time.
I use Tea-tree Oil, which you can get at Walmart in a little, dark, glass bottle. (The bottle says not to use it on infants, but so does everything else.)
I haven’t tried it on an infection that was oozing, but it cleared up one on my 7th child that we’d given up using antibiotics on ... and neither he nor the next two children have had any ear infections since I started using it. And it cured one of our adult NC FReepers of a resistant ear infection.
For an active infection, dip a cotton swab (I prefer brand-name Q-tips for this, because they hold together better than generic swabs) in the oil and carefully wipe the gunk from the ear, three or four times a day. For prevention of further infections, wipe out the ears about every other day (it dissolves the ickiest ear wax, which several of my sons get), or every day if the child is congested.
Olive oil is a helpful substances as well, without any risks, although not as disinfectant as tea-tree oil, which also cures toenail fungus and yeast infections.

La Leche League ties ear infections to use of formula and cow’s milk. Just that the milk (protein)(?) molecules are smaller and can go through permeable membranes/ cause allergic reactions.
I breastfed, baby did not have ear infections; therefore I know NOTHING, only remember this correlation. If it makes sense in your case, you might try it.
I do remember going crazy with an infant, though, and there was NO cure besides time. Pretty soon they won’t cry all the time and will be able to talk. Then a whole new set of problems arises, and there is even more to worry about — hence, less sleep than ever.
By the time they are 20, they are definitely sleeping through the night and not crying and whining (as much), but you will never sleep well again, due to even LARGER shenanigans.

Ahhh, yes, alcohol for the parents helps a lot.
Unfortunately, I heard of a couple of babies that did not survive what was supposed to be routine surgery. Even though it is a common procedure, it is also dangerous as the baby has to be put under anesthesia, unless they do it differently now.
