Splash, the Kennedys' beloved canine sidekick, is dead at 13
Boston Globe ^ | December 23, 2010 | Michael Levenson

He was a published author. He inspired a president. He barked at members of Congress and foreign dignitaries.

Splash, Vicki and Edward M. Kennedy's beloved Portuguese water dog and a constant presence at the senator's side, bounding and romping as he rumbled through the halls of power, has died.

The death of the 13-½-year-old curly-haired canine is eliciting fond tributes, fit for the passing of such a famous fixture of official Washington. Teddy must have still been a little foggy from the last bender or maybe just in reminiscent mood when he came up with that one. Either way, another unforgettable Teddy moment.

If he was a a water dog they could have called him Drip.

Splash was a bit much for a name.

May he RIP in doggy heaven.

It’s unbelievable there are still people on the Kennedy payroll cranking out this treacly drivel.

At this point, any news is a good PR event for them. Their last family politician, a bipolar drug addict, lost his seat, and the few fawning editors remaining at the Washington Post won't be around forever either!

The name "Splash" was based upon what Teddie liked in his morning coffee.

Dog was definitely a better human than his late master.

a constant presence at the senator's side, bounding and romping as he rumbled through the halls of power

And just why was he allowed to constantly romp through the "halls of power?"

Some pols are more equal than others? Typical elitist/Socialist mind set.

Hahahaha...I shouldn't laugh, considering the subject, but that's just so funny. I love a dry, acerbic wit.

A PWD?

Is this why Uhbama ended up getting a PWD? To emulate the Most Beloved Kennedys(TM)?

I was wondering how they latched onto a rare dog.
