Sorry if I'm not allowed to post this sort of thread, but I'd rather ask direct questions than interpret answers to other questions an apply them to my own.
I'm from the UK and for school work over the holidays I've got to find and explain/counter arguments for and against a political issue from another country, and I know that healthcare reform is a big one in America at the moment so I picked the easy one.
I've had good experiences with our NHS, and without it I would either be dead or my family would be deeply in debt due to my medical history (liver failure, mainly, which required a transplant). I also have asthma and as I'm 18 and still in full time education my prescribed inhalers are free. My family isn't very wealthy, my dad died when I was young from cancer (luckily his insurance paid off the remainder of the mortgage and a small amount of other debts) and my mum doesn't have a well paying job (below the national mean wage). We live modestly but don't have very financial problems.
So my questions are:
What, exactly is the problem with nationalized/socialized healthcare?
If the problem is due to it being paid for by tax increases, do you expect the increases to be larger or smaller than your current insurance cost?
Do you think it's 'fair' that people who cannot afford health insurance and have expensive medical issues should have to choose between suffering and large amounts of debt?
Do you think the quality of healthcare will improve/worsen with NHC?
Sorry if this thread isn't allowed or isn't in the right place (never used a forum like this before)
Many thanks, Brendan
Cheerio old chap!
Man, what is holding up this zot?
I really liked the reply to your post that suggested that were it not for free market medicine in the US, the technology for your liver transplant would not have even been available.
So I guess quality is relative. Who would you have had to blame if free market medicine never existed?... nobody. You would be dead.
Before you trumpet socialized medicine as acceptable, maybe you should spend some time in a free market. (what’s left of it)
Or, at least spend some time talking with those who have actually lived to see the difference first hand.
I would suggest speaking with Canadians... we get them here all the time and they are apparently more ticked off about this than we are.
Good to see you RedMDer.
Oh Yea, I see Americans just scrambling accross the border to get Socialist Canada Care (sarc). Jackass! Ours works just fine with the free market and no one is turned down. No death panels here idiot. Your whole idea is just to tear down the free market and freedom itself. You are just too stupid to realise that it is also your freedom that you are losing.
Just how offensive do you find it?
And how do you find it?

The seriousness of penguin homosexuality is, well, serious.
The mods need to consider the seriousness of this issue before zotting.
Please respect the seriousness of penguin homosexuality.
Under Obamacare, if you are not covered by employer's insurance [or buying it on your own] by date certain - you go into the puplic insurance pool. If your employer drops health insurance in the future - go directly into the pool. Same if your insurance carrier goes bankrupt. Once in, if your circumstances improve, you are not allowed to get out. Eventually, everyone will be in the public insurance pool.
That is, all except the unions that gave money to the Democrats, and government employees - they are exempt ...
You should prepare threads for the people you mention instead of responding to DU day raiders.
Dont forget McDonalds and a whole bunch more entities, over 200 of them have been exempted. Obamacare is so great of a solution to the trumped-up healthcare crisis that even the federal employees are exempt from it. Dumbasses dont realise that the end game is a one payer system and that there will be nothing to be exempt from.
Oh yeah, well I look better than Anakin Skywalker....or at least the deformed-looking Anakin at the end of Jedi. ;-)
LOL
I put my posts on relevant threads all the time. But thanks for the free advice.
Don’t get me wrong, I like what you wrote, but I hate feeding trolls. I’d rather see you do the same thing on a legitimate thread. Otherwise, we just encourage more annoyances.
Zot threads are illegitimate? You’re posting on it how is that any different?
What’s wrong with nationalized HC?

That said, I believe the OP to be a DailyKos troll.
You’re entitled to your opinion. BTW he did come back to the thread.
