I am starting a project and want to know if someone would like to help me do it. Once started we can develop a reset button for this economic structure.

I had wondered were that paragraph tag went... click on the “bad” link, then examine it in your Address window, and — ooop — there it is; smack in the middle of the URL.

Your Boston Cop bit reminded me of the interaction between Noah and his neighbor in Cosby’s comedy routine.

“Hey up there.”

N: Yeah.

“What is that?”

N: It’s an ark.

“Uh-huh. What’s it for?”

N: I can’t tell you. Ha, ha ,ha, ha.

Can’t you give me a little hint?

N: You want a hint? Okay. How long can you tread water? Ha, ha, ha, ha.

Right. Look, uh, you wanna get it outta my driveway? I gotta get to work.

"There are plenty of centaurs and other easily reached cometary bodies that can be grabbed for processing."

We are in a unique position in regard to terraforming projects. First off, we're here.

Secondly, our means of getting here, the Gas-Cooled Nuclear Reactors/Rocket Engines are pretty much sitting idle.

Since our habitats are relatively comfortable where they are, or could be moved if need be with minimal effort, the reactors could be used as the basis for a large number of small ships.

Now to do this properly, we should establish our Venus Colony first. We would do that by sending the special shuttles designated for Venus, and letting them set up the orbiting component as well as the atmospheric balloon habitats. Assuming that the balloon structures and their environments are stable enough, we'll set up colonies on them, with the intent to grow more balloon structures and process Venus atmosphere.

The carbon dioxide will be broken down into carbon and oxygen. The oxygen will be used for building breathable atmospheres in various places.

The carbon will go into carbon fiber and carbon nanotubes for cables and ship's hulls.

Here's the kicker. Once we start building ship hulls, we can put engines in them from our decommissioned/recommissioned nuclear material! There's almost no limit to the number of ships we can build!

Next, we use those ships to move materials around, including carbon dioxide and nitrogen from Venus atmosphere, sending it to Mars, and metals and other materials needed for Venus.

Metals from our asteroid plundering can be used to form the mirrors we'll need. We can build one big one at the Mars/Sun L-1 point, which will look like a spiral ring of aluminized surface designed to reflect sunlight that would otherwise slip past Mars back to that planet.

From the surface of Mars, if one should look toward the sun, you would not be able to see the L-1 mirror. But you would see the reflection of the sun, making it appear even larger than it does from Earth!

This additional sunlight will warm Mars, and begin releasing its frozen water from millennial ice lockers. But in the L-1 location, it won't change the Martian day, which is comfortably close to an Earth day in duration.

Now all we will need is an atmosphere.

That's why we need ships.

We'll also need ships to find and ferry water ice from the outer planets and cometary bodies to the Flying Castle, to Mars, to Venus, and if need be to other outposts.

With ships moving all over the solar system, carrying food from Venus and Mars colonies, and finished goods from the Moon and Mercury, water from the outer planets, and carbon dioxide for reaction gas from the inexhaustible supply on the second planet, these worlds will be ours!

Vista is twitchy, but should be better than XP as far as power management is concerned. Set the power settings to Laptop and the default settings oughta be ok. They are easy enough to tweak later if you don't like the results.

I shut mine down if I'm not going to be on for a while. I let it sleep if I close the lid. I let it hibernate if it sits open and plugged in for too long.

YMMV...

What’s the average life of a laptop under those conditions? Ballpark.

How are you feeling, now? Are you over the worst of what you had?

Unless you are constantly taking it with you (doctors appointments, store, classes, meetings), several years. Zon had her work laptop, a Dell D600, for almost 8 years before the backlight on the screen went out.

My HP is about 4 years old and going strong. I've upgraded the RAM, HD, and the wireless card in it. Should last at least another 2-3 years barring an accident.

Yep. Still get the queasiness every now and then, but everyone survived.

Glad to see you are still hanging in there as well... ;-)

The wind chill makes the temp about 23 degrees, Mt. Charleston got another 12” of snow yesterday, and we have rain forecast for most of next week.

Otherwise, it’s a great day!

Do you still have snow?

Ah. OK. I’m not tied to it like a lot of people, because I’m not working. Still, it’s good to have a ballpark idea of when to expect things to slow down.

It would be nice if I had my own IT engineer...*sigh*

He’s very happy because he’s on the counter, where he’s not supposed to be!

Yes there’s still snow anywhere that’s in the shade, even though we’ve had two or three days with highs above freezing. It’s currently 31, according to my beeber, and the sky is clearing. Pets will be happy in the sunbeams.

May take some kids to the movies this afternoon. I want to go to the bookstore: Meck. Library isn’t getting Theodore Dalrymple’s books or Walter Williams’ new one. But first, I have to go to Walmart!

What would you do without Walmart?
I wish ours was as big as yours, but still, it’s a Walmart, it’s close, and it has the secions I need, though I still go elsewhere for a lot of my food. Albertson’s has Black Angus beef, so if I want a steak, that’s where I buy it.

No sunbeans here, today. Cloudy and WINDY.

I’ve been wanting to go to a movie, but I’ll have to wait for payday. Of course, I’ve been saying that for two months, now!
