I am starting a project and want to know if someone would like to help me do it. Once started we can develop a reset button for this economic structure.
To clarify further; in believing as you do, who are you regarding as credible sources of information regarding these things?
Totally off-topic (if there is one, here...)
Is OK to “sleep” a computer, or should it just be shut down? I’ve never done it, thinking it’s not a good idea, but...I’m curious.
PS: And if I don’t use it for an hour and it “shuts down,” is it asleep on its own? Or just comatose?
Much better hardware/firmware/software these days. If I'm going to be away from a machine for a few days, I'll just shut it down. For over night, let it sleep...
K. Thanks. Even a laptop?
Especially a laptop. They are designed to use a variety of strategies to try and conserve battery life. Most of these receive extensive testing before being released into the wild.
RA?
Rhumatoid arthritis?
I hope the mail came on time. :-)
We’re good. We are supposed to get rain this weekend, so the freeze up on Monday should be fun. OTOH, I can’t imagine snow drifts 8 feet high. ;-)
Putting your machine to sleep for awhile should be no problem. I do that with my laptop if I’m going to step away for longer than a half hour, but if I don’t plan to get back to it for a long time — say, several hours — I just go ahead and shut it down.
I’ve read of people having issues with their systems being in “sleep” mode, but those issues were with the various flavors of Windows XP. I haven’t read of any sleep issues for Windows 7 users.
Depends on teh operating system.
Windows needs to be periodically restarted as it tends to lose track of memory after awhile, literlly “Hey, where did 128 meg of memory go?” because Windows tends to select and reserve memory for applications but not let it go once the application is done.
I don’t know about Macs other than I have succeeded in crashing them horrifically without trying. [I has talent]
So I’m going to say “It’s probably a better idea to shut down and restart”.
The same way I always do it. I just tell them, bad spelling and grammar and all. There is no other way. You have to give what you can, and let others decide where to take it.
“Hunh. My watch is ten minutes fast..*RUUUUUUMBBBLLLLLE!!!*”
Having had my backside grabbed by a fruit during basic, I’d pay good money to watch the icon and idol of all things fruity get leveled.
But that, unfortunately for me, is the Artillery Dog in me barking for more destruction.
So I’d kindly suggest to the visitor to head to someone less ‘smite-ish’ and more kind than I.
It seems to me that this is the central issue in dealing with all things of this nature.
You can't. Do you believe the Bible? If so, you would believe the world will have to go through Armageddon before true Heaven/freedom comes, right? In that case, humanity "needs" to experience this (is really gonna suck) future.
It's all very depressing if you ask me. ;-)
Yeah. I'm one of them.
Why is it our social proclivity to write you off as a nutcase, rather than extend you the grace of credibility, at least until 3:48am April 9th, 2011?
There are too many false prophets.
What I would call, for lack of a better word, my intuition....the small, quiet voice inside of me.
If She is happy, everyone is happy. :-)
Joking: Obviously it’s going to be double parked, but who’ll be stupid enough to write the ticket?
“Uh, seeeah heeah. Yooh cahn’t pahk heeah!” -Boston cop trying to ticket God.
Great, just thought of another mind bendingly bizarre thing I’d pay good money to see.
*sigh*
And on that note, how’d you like tha Boston Cop in my hypothetical parking situation?
Regular, or extra crispy?
Corporate has “fixed” our machines so they cannot sleep or hibernate.
So many answers...so little time...
I have Windows Vista, Dell laptop, and I need to make sure it lasts me a few years, even though I use it a lot. Every day, mostly all day long. I do take breaks of anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, or even take a day off because I’m not feeling well enough to sit here.
So I really do need to know what is the best for me to do...shut it down, sleep it, or put it in suspended animation.
I don’t think Lewis’s logic applies to the situation you’ve described, because another choice is that the person is simply mistaken, in error. Perhaps he had a very persuasive dream. I had one this morning about our having to flee our house because my father-in-law and two of my choir members were drug dealers and had murdered someone and implicated us. Fortunately, Ash wasn’t in the dream. If I called the police and told them the story, because it seemed real to me, they would realistically conclude (best case) that I was in error.
A person might even have a legitimate vision, and still get it wrong. Any communication from God or His messengers is filtered through our fallen minds, our cultural expectations, and our psychological histories.
Consequently, although I’m prepared to give a respectful hearing to a person who says he has received communication from God, in any form, I am much less likely to take action based on predicted future events, especially given the track record of such predictions.
Excellent debate. Now I know where Tom gets it...
Thank you! Anoreth, Tom, and Pat would rather argue than just about any other activity. (Unfortunately, you can eat at the same time, if you don’t mind spewing crumbs or sauce.) Bill and James eat too intensely to speak ;-).
