How Does Palin Overcome These Issues To Win Presidency?
Vanity ^ | 11/24/2010 | Patrick1

Sarah Palin seems to be the favorite of the majority of Free Republic members. I still have not made up my mind about her. But if she is the consevative movement's choice to take on the disaster of Obama who has gone from The Messiah to the Mess then there are things that she will need to overcome to get 50% plus one of the American people's vote in 2012. I've listed the ones I hope her supporters can address here because failure to take these issues on will result in certain defeat.

Actually, Patrick1, this is one of the better and more necessary “vanity” threads I’ve ever come across. Thank you. Better to discuss now than worry later.

I first was introduced to Governor Palin while researching ANWR and domestic drilling. I saw right away that this was someone that the Republican party should consider for bigger things. I was VERY happy that McCain added her to the ticket.

Here is the short answer.

Sarah Palin was one of only a few, and probably the only one of the 2012 potential nominees, to aggressively fight the Obama regime’s destructive plans. I am willing to consider anyone in 2012, but if they are not willing to commit completely to a repeal of the last 2 years, they will not get my support.

Let’s consider another angle. How much is the “reluctance” to at least consider and appreciate Palin pursuing a nomination just simply sexism?

What have the “its my turn Republicans” done to prevent the disaster that is DC today?

If you are a blue state “conservative” or a Democrat-lite, there is no need to apply for Republican nominee. The republican brand has been destroyed by these types. We need a radical departure from the Romneys, Bushes and Huckleberries of the world. Whether that is Palin or someone else is to be seen, but the era of “big government” Republicans is OVER!

The people need a choice - socialism of Obama or the limited government and freedom of Conservatism. The latter is the winning choice. What media types, “elites”, demoncrat-lites or talking heads want is irrelevant.

the top ten reasons Palin can win the independent vote

Did you miss the last election?

If your candidate was out front helping to engineer that take-over, then he'll be on our short list for president. He is a fighter, and he is a leader. If he sat quiet while others took the hits and led the charge, then he probably won't be on the short list.

If your candidate wants to be president, the best way to do it is to get up and get in Obama's face and stay there for the next two years. If the best he can do is go after Palin and DeMint, then he is probably not going to be on anyone's short list. The people I'm interested in are going after Obama. The ones I'm not interested in are going after fellow Repubs.

... and we may very well not have had the historic conservative tsumani that just drenched the rats.

That's not a maybe; it is a definite fact. Sarah Palin's endorsement (and in some cases, her dollars) put many of these new conservative candidates over the top, when they had been dropping in the polls.

. And the one man who gave her the big shot, you as her follower deride as “McLame.” Talk about small.

Bu!!$hit. Palin was McLame's quid pro quo to the republican base to support him. He knows the rank and file consider him a traitor. Choosing Palin served his own purposes, and gave him a fighting chance.

Not at all, almost grabbing a Senate seat from an incumbent, Romney like Republican was a coup, remember that we did win the primary, you Romney types had to pull a lot of strings and get a lot of Democrat votes to slink back in by a hair.

Mitt Romney left office with 34% approval and lost the Governor’s office to the Democrats.

This is what a campaign is for. Politics is not static. People change...minds change.

And the purpose of a campaign is for a candidate to make the case for themselves. To allay any previously conceived false notions...to instill a sense of purpose, determination, drive, passion and patriotism... to articulate a vision for America.

If/when Palin announces, she goes from speculative candidate to candidate. That will automatically change her stature. Then as she campaigns, people will see her wearing her “candidate” hat, traveling across the country laying out the case for Sarah Palin.

Either she makes it successfully and is nominated...or she doesn’t, and she backs someone else.

But for anyone to decide two years out that anyone is or isn’t electable when no one has had one day as an actual nominee strikes me as silly. I don’t understand why some folks feel the need to I guess dissuade her or anyone from running.

Let them all run and let the one who makes the best case win. You can see by my tagline who I want it to be but if not her, let that person be a solid constitutional, common sense conservative.

“What we need to defeat is the RINOs trying to convince the country she can't win.”

Amen. In many ways I actually have more respect for Barack Obama than Karl Rove.

As misguided as it is and as much as it is destroying the country, Barack Obama actually believes in something (has a political philosophy).

Rove, on the other hand is simply interested in personal power. He just happens to be a Republican. He would be just as happy as a Democrat as long as he had power.

So...she is no self-made political wizard like Reagan. And the one man who gave her the big shot, you as her follower deride as “McLame.” Talk about small.

Give me a break. He chose her only for motives of self interest.

Enough with the moderate conservative. He hasn't been a moderate conservative for over a decade. McCain/Finegold and support of citizenship for illegal imigrants and others make him a RINO at best.

And enough with the war hero stuff. Benedict Arnold was an American war hero before he became a traitor.

Distant past good behavior might be grounds for the amelioration of punishment for current bad behavior but it doesn't provide grounds for support.

“She did quit as governor after only two years. Do you not think that will be brought up in a national campaign? Shouldn’t her supporters be able to defend that decision?”

They can try to defend her decision but the bottom line is that she only has 2 years as governor and that is very little experience to be our next commander in chief. I thought it was bad enough that Romney only had 4 years and didn’t run for re-election but I guess Obama really lowered the bar.

... this thread is simply a place for knee jerk Palin supporters to spout off without any basis for their support other than to refer people to her website, Facebook page or public speeches.

Where the hell do you want us to send them: CNN? That statement is as vapid as claiming purchase doesn't confer ownership!

You're exactly right. But as a sitting Senator, the MSM will never say Obama quit to run, although for all intent purposes he did. Rarely showed up or voted.

If I were Sarah Palin I'd say, look, I was the Governor of a small state population wise that is located a great distance from the lower 49. In order to work for the betterment of the country and the conservative cause at this crossroads in our history, I chose to resign and leave the Governorship in the hands of my very capable Lt. Gov.,so that I could concentrate on helping the country move forward and to help the Republican party get back to it's conservative roots. In order to do this I would be away from Alaska for long periods of time and have to work very hard to raise money, as I was not born into wealth like so many candidates are today. In my travels across this great land as a VP candidate, I realized that I had to take on a larger role in our fight for our conservatives values and way of life. Even though I knew I would take a hit personally, resigning was the right thing to do for Alaska, as well as the country.

Or something like that.

I wouldn't even mention trumped up ethics charges or other negatives, because that is all the msm folk would write their stories about concerning her statement.

You know, to be completely honest I don’t want* Palin as President.
{I do, however, think she would be an excellent AG.}

*I think too many people would give her a “free pass” to really hold her as accountable [i.e. “hold her feet to the fire”] as the President.

My guess is she’s the smartest person in almost every room she walks into. That’s one of the reasons why the Liberals are so scared of her.
