Singer Sheryl Crow has become the latest celebrity to get caught in the real estate crash. She can’t sell her sprawling Nashville mansion, so she has gone to the extreme — putting it up for auction at a bargain basement price.

Like so many stars who made it big, Crow splurged on huge house with top of the line features. But since the real estate market crash, they have become white elephants.

Now Crow’s house is bargain priced. The bidding has topped out at $1.1 million with the online auction set to end tomorrow night (Nov. 24).

Crow, 48, likely paid $4 million to $6 million for the house in 2006 after renting it for a few years. Initially. she put it on the market in May for $7.5 million. But no takers stepped up.

The sprawling three-story five bedroom house is nestled on 150 acres and is over 10,000-square-feet in size. That’s about three times the normal suburban house.

It has a fourteen stall barn and indoor riding arena and you’ll never have to want for a bathroom. It has seven full baths and one half-bath, in addition to a nanny’s quarters and six-car garage.

But wait there’s more.

The property comes with a 3 bedroom guest cottage.

Crow, the mother of two has lived in the French-style estate, known as “Cross Creek Farm” for six years with sons Wyatt, 3, and Levi, seven months.

For recreation the house has a theatre room, salt water swimming pool and stellar views of the rolling fields surrounding the property.

Crow has won nine Grammys. She recorded her sixth album Detours and part of her seventh, 100 Miles from Memphis at the farm.

"French" style?

Not from where I'm sitting. That is more of a "Let's pile up as much as possible and sell it to some sucker" style.

Between the barn, indoor arena and the fencing in those pastures that place would have horsey folk drooling. However, most of us are horse poor so we can’t afford the house with the aquarium in the kitchen. Or want a house with an aquarium in the kitchen.

As with government, it’s not the income that the problem, it’s the spending.

Maybe she loaded up on carbon credits and when the CCX folded she lost a bundle.

When we were in Reno two weeks ago we saw posters for her upcoming performance there.

She's playing casinos in Reno now. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

If I won the lottery tomorrow, I wouldn’t want this house, much less an aquarium in the kitchen. Maybe it kept the kids occupied while the cook was making breakfast. I will say that having horses usually keeps one so busy and so tired that there isn’t much time for watching the fish, however beautiful and calming they might be.

Having an enormous aquarium has been a fashion in upscale New York apartments for the past several years, but when maintenance costs run into six figures per year, they’re falling out of favor with some. This might have been Sheryl’s modest effort to embrace that trend.
