This is a must see. A black bear approaches a man in a tree stand. The bear even starts climbing the tree stand and is within, like one or two ladder rungs of the guy. Why the idiot isn't shooting the bear with something besides a camera is beyond me. If it were me, the moment the bear started climbing the ladder I would have made a rug out of him for my living room floor. The man does eventually speak up and it startles the bear who obviously did not realize that this particular tree was occupied. I guess the bear wasn't hungry, because it decided to climb back down and leave. I know this much, the guy can thank God there were no bear cubs around or else we would be reading about human remains being found on and around a hunters tree stand. Below is a link to the video.
Black Bear & Tree Stand VIDEO
My 45 year old daughter says she's not afraid of them. I beat her head against the wall until she said...okay, okay...I'm afraid....
I like bears. These black bears are often fairly timid. The man in this video needs to get a job.
I don’t give a rat’s ass how popular they are: I believe tree stand hunting is TOTALLY unsportsmanly. Some jackass built one on my property a few years ago and I was happy to leave him the charred remains.
Either deer bait had been placed on the platform so it's smell could travel farther than by spreading it on the ground or, the guy had some honey oats granola bars in his pocket.
I tried to instill that in my son also. He is 38 now and has begun taking my grandson hunting with him. It's a family tradition. Anyway, all the times I tell him to be careful, he just looks at me and say's, "I'll be fine Mom. Besides, all I have to fear is fear itself. Right?"
Sometimes I really wish I never shared that phrase with him when he was a boy. I could care less how old he is, he's still my little Joey. Like his daddy, he is a good hunter though.
That’s a great video and the man in the tree stand was wise and compassionate. Why shoot the bear? If he began to attack or looked like he would attack the man could have done what was necessary to save his life. The bear just looked curious and was certainly not aggressive. Perhaps the man had some kind of weapon that he could have used had it been necessary. As my husband said if he DID look like he was going to get aggressive, a shot in the air probably would have made him run. Shoot the bear as he began to climb the ladder??? No way. This man is a true sportsman!! Good for the man in the tree.
That bear is so cute, I’m glad he didn’t shoot it.
Summer 2008 vacation in Grand Teton and Yellowstone: never saw a bear in a week's time while camped in an RV park in GT. I kept waiting for one but never saw one.
This video shows what most wildlife specialists say about bears, that they prefer to avoid humans as long as they don't perceive them as a source of food from poor camp management habits while in bear country.
everyone knows the bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kO1rfdDjNGI&p=DBD8B55AAE1E5EE4&playnext=1&index=8
Looks like the bear just followed the scent directly to the tree. Curiosity almost got the bear. Amazing video.
I'm with you, pal!
A real sportsman would go in the woods wearing nothing but a codpiece then run down his quarry and kill it with his bare hands.
Hell, that's the way I do it.
I support the culling of animals and the eating of them too. I am not a tree hugger. But I just can't support killing bears that are not a threat to humans. They are just too cute, and you can see the curiosity in their faces. In a way, they remind me of cats and dogs.
Grizzlies are a different story. Kill 'em all, along with all wolves.
Really?

Do not be fooled. We have a 700 lbs one in this area that has escaped repeatly after aggressively invading homes.

Codpieces are for rookies. If you ain't 100% flappin' in the wind, you might as well go back to your cubicle, city boy.
The bear video is okay but while there check out some of the other videos. On the bear one I clicked “previous” and there is a native making music with bamboo sticks and rocks. Really interesting.
This is a list of known fatal black bear attacks on humans by decade. This is from Wikipedia which means it is probably under reporting the actual number of attacks by 20% to 30%. So you still think that black bears will not attack humans?.

I’m going to go out on a limb here..... and suggest that he didn’t shoot the bear ............. because he didn’t have a gun. LMAO
