It's Official -- -- National Chain Burger Stores Suck

Posted on 10/09/2010 8:18:48 AM PDT by big black dog

Maybe a couple of years ago, I gave up on ever expecting any quality product from the big 3 pizza stores. Without exaggeration, I could get a much, much better product by simply picking up a frozen Tombstone pizza and baking it. (Pizza Inn is great though. They don't deliver here, but I gladly go and pick it up rather than order the crap the big 3 serves.)

On to burgers. I used to love McDonalds and Burger King hamburgers. However, for some time, when I would eat them, they just didn't taste right. Especially McDonalds -- It's like I was eating a meat substitute or something. I thought maybe I just didn't like hamburgers anymore.

It has been a long, long time since I cooked any hamburgers at home. But just on a whim, I tried it last night. Didn't do anything special. Just took some ground beef, sprinkled in some salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and fried it up on the stove.

Ate a hamburger using 2 pieces of bread with mustard. It was the best hamburger I've had in years! Crunchy outer texture of the fried burger with a juicy interior; I know I'll never eat that crap again at the national joints -- just like with the pizza.

What I want to know is when Little Ceasar’s pizza went down the tubes? Back in the late 70’s early 80’s they were the pizza kings, now their crust is terrible.

Love the $5.00 pepperoni pizza at Little Ceasar's here in Phoenix.

Thanks for the info. Rarely do I shop there, actually, the Target here only has a few grocery aisles, a small freezer section, but I will look. I am going to copy and paste your post for my own reference.

Target has an excellent, truly gourmet quality frozen pizza. The brand is Archer Farms, which is their generic brand, but it’s handmade in Italy and has an ingredient list about 5 items long — just the bare basics with no artificial junk or preservatives. You have to read the packaging carefully though because not all of the Archer Farms pizzas are the Italian ones.

You said, half a pound of chuck, half a pound of sirloin, cut in cubes and then pulsed in food processor.

Will have to try it.

Our town got its first Sonic over a year ago. The first time I went, I wasn’t impressed. Their onion rings were the worst I ever had. The people with us said that the menu changed from when they first went and that was a matter of months. Things they liked were removed.

I wouldn’t bother with them either.

Love the $5.00 pepperoni pizza at Little Ceasar's here in Phoenix.

Made the mistake of buying that once. That was when I realized they had changed their crust, from yeast to styrofoam.

Thanks for the link. I’m going to pass it on to my son, and have him look at it when he is home next time. He is majoring in plant genetics and minoring in bio-tech.

The Sonic burger tasted like the meat was very old, you know, like when you forget about a pack of ground beef in the fridge and then take it out and it stinks, that’s how the Sonic hamburger tasted. Unbelievable that they would cook it and serve it. Definitely cured me of eating at Sonic.

Yep, I have noticed too that pizza places now use baking soda or baking powder for leavening instead of yeast. Ruins it.

What Little Ceasars uses now is best described as a thick, dry crust like some of the pre made crusts that you can buy in the store except not as good as that.

Some pizza places put far too much sauce on and that detracts from the other flavors that I want to taste. But, I understand, the sauce is cheap so they glob it on.

>I also like Subway and am never disappointed with their food; the Subways here have started serving breakfast, but I have not tried it yet.

Mmmm; I liked getting the $5 foot-long. Lots of banana-peppers, mustard, salt & pepper, vinaigrette, and chipolte on the Italian herb bread!

I remember the Cosby routine, it was great. But I love “house burgers” just the same.

But the best cheeseburger I ever had in my life was at the Hard Rock Cafe’ in Puerto Vallarta (they do raise some good beef down there). I think it was the most expensive too!

Yes, Dominos has improved. We discovered that a year ago or so ago when we were sort of forced into going with them when we couldn't get our usual take out for some reason. Bonus, Dominos is cheaper than the better frozen supermarket pizzas. The "Hut" would be a slight upgrade I think, put there was a time PH was pretty darn good and D was pure crap.

Though I would prefer pizzas from a couple of my favorite old independent shops (there is no comparison, actually), they are gone.

I'd still pay bigger bucks for a Chicago style from East Broadway Pizzeria but since they closed over ten years ago I have not found anything anywhere that comes close.

Done! Will be substituting ground venison because I have a lot of it in the freezer. (It has a little beef and pork in it for fat.)

I’ll let you know... :)

I can’t eat the burgers at Five Guys. I end up with a terrible sick stomach when I do. Now I love and do go there for their hot dogs and french fries.

>Blake’s Lotaburger has good fries.

Agreed.

>I got a hamburger at one once, though, and the meat was not fresh, it was really bad. I cringe to think of it.

That’s amazing to me; I have NEVER had a burger from them where the meet was not at least good, oftentimes it is great or excellent.
