I got twitted last night, about the length of my hair.
It's long, but it's not quite yet to the neck, which is when I usually get it cut.
I told neighbor that, well, most males my age have either thinning hair or no hair at all, whereas I have this lush luxuriant foliage.
Most males my age have things I don't have, and so this is my particular vanity, something to show off. God gave me at least one thing about which to flaunt.
I've always worn my hair long, but the reason I gave him is only the superficial reason, not the real one.
I was wearing my hair long even as a kid, when long hair on a boy was definitely not "cool."

“A question: In your picture you look to have an ear and fairly short hair. Plastic surgery or not you?”
Not frank. I believe that is skinner from DU.
I hope this is of interest.
Yes, it was of interest. I too have a birth defect, one that cannot be hidden. I found the post touching and sad. Childhood sucked, didn't it?
I love Frank’s stories. He’s been posting them infrequently for many years. He’s no blog pimp.
If you didn’t know his past posts well (Like I don’t)and read that edit snip you’d think the poster was just driving numbers to his site.(Blogpimping)
This should posted fully here, IMHO, it was a beautiful entry and will be missed by most because of the edit.
LOL!
You have the hair I don’t have. Enjoy and wear it as you will. Just...leave me a little at the next haircut :>
"Twitted"? What's that? Jumped by a gang of twits?
Count me as one who will never see the full post, precisely because I hate the sucker game that bloggers play around here.
If it's your own work, then post enough of it so that we can get a real taste of what you're offering. If it's delicious, we'll bookmark your blog and go back for more, on our own.
But, baiting a hook like this, just turns off most of the reading audience. It's a trick that's worn thin, and doesn't work like it once did.
Well now, I'm sure that if I'm--unwittingly--violating the rules of freerepublic, an administrator will tell me, and I know for a certainty that behavior would immediately cease.
I have too much respect for Jim Robinson and freerepublic to cause even the slightest problem for either of them. freerepublic was my first "home" on the internet--way back in the late 1990s, although being a reticent person, I didn't join until October 2003, and it was quite some time after that before I dared make a comment, much less post an original topic. I love freerepublic with a passion.
The place to which this is linked is not a "blog;" I don't blog. It's a similarly conservative web-site, but with a slightly different focus than freerepublic. About half the members of this other web-site are members of freerepublic, and I suspect that all members from there read freerepublic.
I don't consider linking to conservativecave 6-8 times a year (or whatever it is; it's a very small number) "excessive," and if it were, I'm sure an administrator would tell me, and I would cut it down.
This particular piece is extraordinary in that it's short, and so it was a judgement call on my part whether or not to post the whole thing here. As with all humans, one has lapses in judgement.
In the past, I've posted full-length stuff on freerepublic, but I get the impression members of freerepublic don't care to read long articles (no disparagement of anyone; some of the stuff I've written is book-length, after all).
One of the medium-length things I've written was originally posted here, two years ago, the story of how I tried to save a dying pet cat. It ran for pages and pages and pages. It got an excellent reception here, but it seemed to me it was rather more than what the audience here wanted, and so I decided to post the stories over at the other site, and link them here, if they might be of interest.
This was posted in "Chat," the purpose of which I understand to be for miscellaneous or trivial stuff, as compared with the more-serious stuff that makes up the bulk of freerepublic. From what I can see, it was posted in exactly the appropriate forum, and given the purpose and nature of this particular forum, I don't understand why some would get so hot and excited about it.
Our republic is in peril at the present moment, and we have a desperate chance to save it six weeks hence, and nit-picking among conservatives and Republicans about arcane "issues" hinders that opportunity.
I'm sure if I was doing something wrong here, an administrator would contact me, after which it would cease.
Conservative Cave isn’t a blog. It’s a conservative forum somewhat similar to Free Republic. Frank’s a long-standing member of Free Republic as well as CC, and I’m a member of both as well.
I suggest, before you begin your rants, you do a little research so you know whereof you speak.
Frank, you did nothing wrong. Some people just don’t know how to get along. It wasn’t you.
You violated every single rule of Free Republic with your response.
Knock it off!
Great story.
You know, you can bugger off with that snooty elitist tone.
I wasn't ranting. I'm simply trying to let the poster I was talking to, know that when it comes to bloggers posting their works on the forum, it helps if they post more than a snippet.
Many readers feel as though they're often baited to give a hit to someone's blog. I'm not the first, nor am I the only one to say this. It's not a complaint. In fact, I rarely, if ever make comment about how bloggers post here (unlike some, who make a crusade out of it).
Most definitely.
Always good to read your stuff, Frank.
You’re missing the point. He’s NOT a blogger. He’s been a member here since 2003, and is also involved with the other conservative forum, Conservative Cave. It was simply a post on that forum he thought we might enjoy.
If you feel baited, that’s your mistake, not his. So, to insure this doesn’t happen again, kindly put him (or me) in your “don’t bother” list. That’ll take care of it. Frank, as I hope, will continue posting things he finds worthwhile, because many of us enjoy them.
If not for it there would only be SIX deadly sins, and that just doesn't have the same ring to it!
Gula (gluttony)
Fornicatio (fornication, lust)
Avaritia (avarice/greed)
Tristitia (sorrow/despair)
Ira (wrath)
Acedia (acedia)
Vanagloria (vainglory) = vanity
Superbia (hubris, pride)
I didn't miss the point. I heard you the first time. What I originally said still applies, but honestly, I'm not even interested in having this debate.
Frank's a long-time Freeper and a wonderful guy. OK. He's not a blog pimp. Got it. I'm done now.
:’) I thought that cartoon was great, but thanks anyway for the explanation. In GGG topics we all see the analogous reaction from time to time — someone who was not pinged just shows up and demands to know why such a topic would be posted on FR — this despite the fact that (besides not being their freakin’ business) the GGG list antedates my membership here, I’m fairly sure, not positive; and blam was posting topics with a GGG-type focus ten years ago, before the GGG list even existed. And it’s not an unpopular list, it’s now pushing 800 members. That GGG topics have escaped the notice of this or that officer of the topic police force is a bit amazing (not to say unbelievable, ahem), since there are 25 or more topics each week — sometimes near 50 — most of which I do not post, and many of them appear under other keywords and (for example) the History area of Chat, and even some of them in the News area.
