The Paris Motor show is going on now. The usual car unveilings are a given, but also the shows are becoming a place for automakers to showcase and release exciting new tech. Take BMW, for example: they are known around the globe for making the ultimate driving machines. Now, they are entering the realm of being the ultimate connectivity machines.

Well now its official, BMW will have it out this year, and its also going to support the iPadbut they call it Original BMW Accessories BMW Carrier for Apple iPad Office Mode. (How official!)
Whats cool about this is that finally we can expect the same experience in our car that we do from our phone. You can do it by connecting though the dock connector or better yet, Bluetooth all navigated from the already in-car iDrive controller. The interface is Apples own, though its controlled from iDrive. Expect it to be similar to Front Row and to include album art.

Out of curiosity, now that Android phones are actually outselling Iphones, why would they not use the same standard interface used on most Android phones.
Or is it a bit of a contradiction to use the words “standard” and “most” in the same sentence?
Oooh... stop giving me reasons to trade up!
That's great! I had one of those as a kid.
Sweet. I am holding out for an Android pad (price and I hate AT&T) but that would be tempting if I were in the market. (jeeze I’m a gadget nerd..)
I already have an Android pad. It’s by Pandigital and I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond. It’s an ebook which has all the functions of an iPad, although not as speedy. For $149 it’s wireless and amazing. It beats the pants off of a Kindle.
Perhaps because there is not a standard interface on Android. Every carrier is starting to add their own proprietary extensions on a variety of hardware form factors. That's not standardization. It's fragmentation.
Or is it a bit of a contradiction to use the words standard and most in the same sentence?
Most phones are still using the Nokia OS. So it makes no sense to say Android is standard or most, particularly in light of the fragmentation of Android.
If you are holding out for price, you may have a wait. In the meantime, you might want to read this article from PCWorld:
Apple iPad: The Low-Price Leader?
I did notice the iPad has hit the Apple refurb store already for about $50 less than new ones.
LOL
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
I guess we bough the new Buick LaCrosse too soon? Or maybe not...
Actually this is just another accident waiting to happen. The evening news was all about the crackdown on distracted drivers causing accidents...
Notice the camera hole on the top/left of the case. This should start another round of rumors.
iPhones and iPads use the same interface as iPods.
Android has a very, very, very, very long way to go before it gets anywhere near half the existing devices with the iPod interface.
Why would you use an interface that’s limited to only one type of phone? (By the way, Android phones don’t all use the same docking connector, so you’re SOL there - whereas all the iProducts for the past 8 years all have the same connector.) Ford tried it with a Zune specific version of their Sync technology in their cars and got shot down by their customers.
You bought a Government Motors vehicle. Your opinion is not to be considered; you are willingly funding the destruction of America.
I’m disappointed it took almost 24 hours from some JA to pan the purchase. It’s my tax money, my children’s tax money, my current grandchildren’s tax money tied up in GM and the sooner GM repays the loans the happier I’ll be...
