The results presented in this article replicate findings from previous research: Women who cohabit prior to marriage or who have premarital sex have an increased likelihood of marital disruption. Considering the joint effects of premarital cohabitation and premarital sex, as well as histories of premarital relationships, extends previous research. The most salient finding from this analysis is that women whose intimate premarital relationships are limited to their husbandseither premarital sex alone or premarital cohabitationdo not experience an increased risk of divorce. It is only women who have more than one intimate premarital relationship who have an elevated risk of marital disruption. This effect is strongest for women who have multiple premarital coresidental unions. These findings are consistent with the notion that premarital sex and cohabitation have become part of the normal courtship pattern in the United States. They do not indicate selectivity on characteristics linked to the risk of divorce and do not provide couples with experiences that lessen the stability of marriage.
Not in the mood for humor at the moment, are you? Forgive me for intruding.
I’m sorry. I thought you were serious. It is not uncommon for posters to complain about their sex lives while married, as opposed to what they enjoyed while single.
Exactly. Now sexual virtue is considered a handicap, a personal failing, means something is psychologically wrong, maybe a closet homosexual, etc.
My DH had only one girlfriend before we were married - for a very short time, and he was 32. If people knew of his “inexperience” (people like the ones we’re talking about) they would have thought something was wrong with him.
On the contrary, he had high principles.
I will admit we had a very short engagement.
Yes; it means going against the flow, swimming against the current, and basically being an outsider to the cultural milieau. (sp?)
At one of the local grocery/everything store chains in this state they have one special “Family Friendly” checkout aisle. Since the regular “womens” magazines, Globe etc are so racy - soft porn covers really - they have one special aisle for parents who don’t want their children to see such mind rotting junk.
It means that parents who raise their children to hold high principles and expect them to act accordingly have a difficult task; but one of the most worthy. The next generation is so important. When I see parents keeping their children from swimming in the cesspit of modern culture and training them in traditional virtues and principles, it engladdens my heart.
Well said!
“Milieu,” I think. No matter how I arrange the vowels, it still looks wrong ;-).
It appears I overreacted to what was intended to be a quip.
However, the glamorization of sex outside marriage has serious consequences when people do get married.
No “a”, yours looks right.
I saw that - a quip.
But on FR (I can imagine elsehwere!) often such comments are meant at face value.
I wouldn't know.
To quote the inimitable comedy team Puke and Snot:
(actress) -- Tell me, is it true what they say about you Frenchmen?
Puke -- What, that we rarely bathe and are rude to foreigners?
(actress) -- No, that, they say the Frenchmen are the world's greatest lovers?
Snot -- I don't know, I've never made love to a French man.
Cheers!
(Full Disclosure: RIP Snot, we'll miss you.)
It's not just women who are hurt by all of this, as even some MRA's are starting to point out.
Similar case here.
What is funny is that many of those who said we did it wrong are divorced.
Yes indeed. DH and are best friends for life. That’s what counts.
I’ve never made love to a Frenchman, either, so that makes all of us.
do0d, i KNOW you want to get in on this one :)
Seriously??!! What in the world are you thinking? Do you realize that in order for the woman to become a “slut” as you so delicately put it there needs to be a man involved in the process? What about the man? What label does he receive? He probably be hailed as a hero for sleeping around with as many people as he can. Do you think he won’t have trouble staying true to whomever he marries?
Your logic is a major fail.
