A New View of Gravity: Entropy and information may be crucial concepts for explaining roots...
Science News (Vol.178 #7 p. 26) ^ | September 25th, 2010 | Tom Siegfried

As Sir Isaac Newton himself replied in response to similar questions, "hypotheses non fingo." Which roughly translates as "I don't have a clue."

That such a simple question, about so common a phenomenon, has defied a direct answer for centuries might explain why the physics world has been atwitter lately over a novel attempt to resolve the riddle. A flurry of recent papers have examined this new idea, which mixes principles from string theory and black hole physics with basic old-fashioned thermodynamics. If this notion is right, gravity turns out to be a special sort of entropy, a result of the same physics that drives matter to give up its organization and order as it succumbs to the laws of probability. Toss in a dash of quantum mechanics and a pinch of information theory, and the universe emerges, governed on a grand scale by pretty much the same principles underlying the elastic pull of a rubber band.

Does Kunta Kinte fit into this somehow?

It does seem at least partly intuitive, in that thermodynamics and gravity both involve the tendency to seek equilibrium.

That gives me an idea... anti gravity boots!! works like this... devise a large magnifying glass only instead of magnifying light it magnifies gravity from outer space and the pull from magnified outer space gravity counters the gravitational pull of earth. This gravity magnifier orbits the earth and the wearer of the special boots can direct the magnifier to wherever he happens to be and voila! he floats over cars, buildings and mountains... of course, if he’s not careful, he gets sucked into outer space and splats onto the magnifying device. But this could work, really!

I hope a resurgence of Newtonian physics will herald a return to his general views on God the Creator.

“This most beautiful system [The Universe] could only proceed from the dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being” -Sir Isaac Newton

Go for it! This could make you a billionaire. Certainly it would do more for the economy than Alvin Greene’s idea (action figures of himself).

Aww, I wouldn’t do it for money, well maybe a little, I’d do it for all of mankind. They’d call me Captain Altruist, as I show the world how to fly... I’m sure the boots would be fairly expensive at first, maybe a couple bil for the first 10,000 pair...

Thank -you for discovering and posting this article. It must be one of the most clearly written articles about Gravity=Entropy yet written. I learned a lot from it, and I will follow up on some of that learning.

Newton didn’t know what gravity was (it appears to be action at a distance, which he had difficulty with), merely tried to model it with math.

Not knowing what gravity was puts him in the same spot as every other human being since.

As you mention he was the guy who derived the equation, though.
