These chairs give the phrase "please put your seatbacks in the upright position" a whole new meaning.

An Italian aircraft interiors company called Aviointeriors is proposing a new semi-standing 'seating' configuration that airlines could use to create a 'basic' class to maximize passenger count and profits, while lowering ticket prices.

I’d hate to be stuck in one of those for a 3+ hour flight.

It might be ok for 1 hour flights. I mean people stand on the subway.

If people are willing to pay for it, well then you get what you deserve.

I think they’re going the wrong direction, literally. Go horizontal with the hammock. Stack ‘em 3 high, fatties on the bottom, skinnys on top!

How did we get to the point where commercial enterprises MUST - under penalty of law - offer one-size-fits-all accommodation?

I say this because I am sure if they did this and fatties could not fit, the airline would be sued for some federal anti-fatty discrimination rule.

None of us have to get on those planes. The airlines can set up the planes any way they want.

So - the airlines could offer Plus-Size seats for a heftier price and Slim Seats for 50% off.

Not really. See: FAA

I'm sure there's an I-talian equivalent.

What is semi standing seating? Or semi seating standing? You get in a plane and they strap you to a wall and tell you to shut up. Not much different from what they offer now.

Absolutely right. I don't fly unless absolutely necessary. My choice, because I HATE what the industry has done to the "experience".

Instead of demanding they do things my way, I'll just make my own choices and let the market work things out.
