These chairs give the phrase "please put your seatbacks in the upright position" a whole new meaning.
An Italian aircraft interiors company called Aviointeriors is proposing a new semi-standing 'seating' configuration that airlines could use to create a 'basic' class to maximize passenger count and profits, while lowering ticket prices.

I’d hate to be stuck in one of those for a 3+ hour flight.
It might be ok for 1 hour flights. I mean people stand on the subway.
If people are willing to pay for it, well then you get what you deserve.
I think they’re going the wrong direction, literally. Go horizontal with the hammock. Stack ‘em 3 high, fatties on the bottom, skinnys on top!

How did we get to the point where commercial enterprises MUST - under penalty of law - offer one-size-fits-all accommodation?
I say this because I am sure if they did this and fatties could not fit, the airline would be sued for some federal anti-fatty discrimination rule.
None of us have to get on those planes. The airlines can set up the planes any way they want.
So much for overheads...
The Italians are SHORT. We Scandinavians will NOT like these.

So - the airlines could offer Plus-Size seats for a heftier price and Slim Seats for 50% off.

What is semi standing seating? Or semi seating standing? You get in a plane and they strap you to a wall and tell you to shut up. Not much different from what they offer now.

Absolutely right. I don't fly unless absolutely necessary. My choice, because I HATE what the industry has done to the "experience".
Instead of demanding they do things my way, I'll just make my own choices and let the market work things out.
