Thousands of WWII pictures from 1944 / Normandy period

I've had these pictures sat on my PC for years so i've finally got around to hosting them. I'm slowly captioning them too, based on translations from a French Flickr account. I think he copied them from somewhere else so i don't feel too bad about using them. I'm not copying word for word anyway.
Anyway, hope some of you enjoy them !

No, but i’ve seen many of them on other public websites so i’m hoping perhaps naively that they are all public domain.
If thats what you were getting at ?

yes and no. They are exceptional pictures and I was actually going to suggest that you put some sort of copyright or watermark on them if they were yours. Thanks for posting...

It is amazing the pictures people have stashed away. A few years ago I was helping an older frined work on his computer. I need a screwdriver and he told me there was one in a box on his shelf in his study. I picked the wrong box and when I opened it I saw the most horrid pictures. They were pictures he had acquired in WWII. They were captured photos that had been taken by the Japanese during the Bataan Death March. Horrid horrid images. He would not talk about them.
I had another odd "picture" event with another friend. I was chatting with him one night at his house and he mentioned that he had been on the road crew and had worked for Elvis Presley. I said I thought that was pretty cool. Then he went in to a closet and pulled out a large box. My friend is a heck of a photographer and the box was full of hundreds of pictures of Elvis Presley. Backstage, in hotel rooms, in the car, rehearsing at different places. It would have taken me a long time to look at all of them.
You never know what people might have stored away....

Thanks for posting these.
My father-in-law was with the 5th Armored Div in the ETO. When he died ten years ago, we discovered six albums filled with photos very much like yours.
Even though I'm a former Marine and VN combat vet, he never discussed his experiences with me other than general references.

One thing you learn very quickly is that people usually do not keep negatives, and the paper used for prints will turn yellow and deteriorate very quickly. It’s important to get these historic moments scanned into a digital record, which will last forever.
Until somebody deletes it ...
