I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a purchase of a new scope for my AR-15. The company is Leapers, and the scope is a 3x-9x X 40mm on a 1 inch tube, with illuminated mil-dot reticle.
It's USA made (Michigan) and all of the reviews I've read have been positive. Here's the deal - it only costs $65 to $70 dollars! I'm on a tight budget, so the price point is really appealing. Anybody have personal experience with this company's products?

Just from personal experience, beware of cheap scopes. Sure, if you have an inexpensive gun you play with like a toy, a cheapy is all you need. But if this is one of your baby’s, don’t go cheap.

I see Leaper stuff all over the gun shows, the general review is that they aren’t very good.
Now, you don’t need to spend $1000 for an AR scope. I’m about to pull the trigger (Hah!) on a Leupold AR series scope (3-9x40mm) for my carbine. About $300, prolly not made in the USA but it has a Leupold warranty.
A $300 scope is probably a good starting point for an AR.

I have always been sorry for even wasting my time mounting and sighting in a cheap scope , but I have friends who are happy as pigs in muck with them . Scopes are such a personal choice , you just about have to learn by trial and error . I have benefited from the rush to new fangled scopes, by standing around asking what my shooting partners were going to do with that old Leupold , now that they have mounted a Lickemhoffski with Bullet drop , infrared, laser guided, electric start, prairie dog death ray, with latte dispenser .

General advice, which I’m sure others here will echo: don’t wast your time on cheap optics - not worth your money - or your life. It’s worth $300-400 to get a quality AR-15 sight.

Nice scope, but it’s pre-calibrated for bullet drop on a 55gr bullet, just like the ATN scope I have now. I’ve started loading 68gr. so I’m looking for a scope I can calibrate myself. I’ve also come to appreciate illuminated reticles for my less than perfect eyesight.

My 2 cents...That’s $65 you’ll wish you’d spent on a $2-300 scope later. I bought a Leupold. Very happy with it.

Great advice so far.. I’ve been in the market for a scope for my AR recently too but other things came up.

From all reports, doesn’t say MADE IN THE USA on the box and Leupold leaves one of their dominant slogans off of this item.

For inexpensive scopes I like Muellers. Got 2 of them on pcp air rifles. I have a Leapers on a rimfire. It’s fine but I wouldn’t trust my life to it. The AR and other serious weapons have Leupolds.
To: GunsAndBibles
Yeah, but I don’t know very many people that don’t just use self-calibration anyway. I don’t think the 55gr calibration prevents you from doing the math and adjusting click-by-click.

It’s meant for an Airsoft gun from what I gather by looking around at the accessories.
