Uberti's 1873 .44 Magnum Carbine

I noticed on the Uberti website that they are offering an 1873 carbine (19" barrel) in .44 Magnum. I have not seen any information other than that. I was wondering if anyone had one, or knew of an article about them. I kinda like the idea of this gun in .44 Mag myself....if they have in fact pulled it off.

I have an 1894 Winchester carbine in 44 mag. It’s a thumper.

My only comment is they didn’t have a .44 magnum caliber slug back in 1873.
I like authenticity.

I was alway under the impression that 44 mag was too hot for the toggle link action of the 73. They must have done some extensive testing to start offering them in that caliber. I have one in 44-40 and love it. It smokes like a freight train with 777 loads. I love the sport of cowboy action shooting

It looks nice. My brother has a 44 mag rifle, it is accurate and seems to hit pretty hard.
Seems like it would make a decent short range deer gun.

not as much as an 1894 in 45-70 :)
my problem with the ‘94 in .44 is they seem to need .432” cast bullets, or really slow loads, else they tumble.

Wow, I want one. The Henry Big Boy is heavier than it needs to be (but still a made-in-America beauty). Hopefully the shorter barreled versions of this ‘73 will be nice and light. 44-40 is okay but 44 mag will make this gun much more flexible and able to produce clean kills on deer, boar, and bad guys.

That was my impression as well. The only things I’ve turned up searching the net about this particular gun brought that up in a few forum posts here and there. But I’ve not seen anything by anyone who’s actually shot one of this particular kind.

So do I, actually. But, I was thinking about a companion rifle for a Ruger Blackhawk, and I like the appearance of the 1873.

The Umberti 1860 Henry replica is a beautiful rifle.

Well, Uberti makes good firearms.
I’d like to get myself one of those Montana repro Sharps Rifles someday. Bit pricey though.

Hope their gunsmiths are more competent than their editors.
"Right: Like the 1860 Henrys, the 1873 Winchester rifles included a lever lock to insure the lever remained securely in place. "
"...a factor that really insured the success of the 1873 Winchester rifles..."

Used to shoot one in 44/40 all the time, liked it quite a bit, and 44/40 is highly available from custom loaders across the country.
Make sure, however, if you do buy this that it came from a reputable source. A 44 mag ‘second’ is a sure way to find out what happens when you've got a catastrophic failure. (IE: Avoid Cabellas, a special sale at your local gun shop, etc.)

Zulu -
I have seen one up close - very nice. I think Gunbroker or GunsAmerica might turn up one from time to time. As the Euro falls, maybe one will be available for a little less next year.

Yep and I've been lusting after one of those Uberti Wright conversions of an 1851 Colt in 38 Special. They are so pretty and I just know they would point mighty nice too.
