I have an 1894 Winchester carbine in 44 mag. It’s a thumper.

My only comment is they didn’t have a .44 magnum caliber slug back in 1873.

I like authenticity.

I was alway under the impression that 44 mag was too hot for the toggle link action of the 73. They must have done some extensive testing to start offering them in that caliber. I have one in 44-40 and love it. It smokes like a freight train with 777 loads. I love the sport of cowboy action shooting

It looks nice. My brother has a 44 mag rifle, it is accurate and seems to hit pretty hard.

Seems like it would make a decent short range deer gun.

Wow, I want one. The Henry Big Boy is heavier than it needs to be (but still a made-in-America beauty). Hopefully the shorter barreled versions of this ‘73 will be nice and light. 44-40 is okay but 44 mag will make this gun much more flexible and able to produce clean kills on deer, boar, and bad guys.

Hope their gunsmiths are more competent than their editors.

Used to shoot one in 44/40 all the time, liked it quite a bit, and 44/40 is highly available from custom loaders across the country.

Make sure, however, if you do buy this that it came from a reputable source. A 44 mag ‘second’ is a sure way to find out what happens when you've got a catastrophic failure. (IE: Avoid Cabellas, a special sale at your local gun shop, etc.)

I’ll second the OP who said they make very nice guns. My dad has one of their cowboy revolvers in .22LR/.22Mag (changeable cylinders) that he’s had since I was a pup. Still a nice shooting gun.

Every couple of weeks I go down and check out one of these chambered in 45 Long Colt. Fit and finish are great. It is a beautiful rifle. It is very expensive, over $1100 and I have not been willing to make an investment in shooting a new caliber. If all you want is a 44 Mag lever gun - check out the Marlin Model 1894 Cowboy, an excellent gun for a lot less money.

Question: Wouldn’t the “equal and opposite reaction” result in some violent rearward motion with a .44? The .30 - .30 always seemed to me to be the best of beauty, balance and precision. sd

I looked at it and it seems as if theyve marketed it for cowboy action shooters. Im guessing then it’s built to be robust and should work just find. It certainly looks great.

I wouldn’t mind to have for a truck gun.

Are the Uberti and Cimarron Arms guns not from the same factory, but just with different maker stamps?

Also check out the Bounty Hunter.
It's available in .45LC, .44-40, and .44 Mag for S1,250.00.

You might consider a Puma Model 92 in .454 Casul.

But the better caliber is 45-70. For example look at this

In as such as a lever gun goes I like my Marlin chambered for .357 magnum or any combination of .38specials. Just cannot use a sharp pointed bullet unless its the new “lever” bullets that have a soft polymer tip.

Several years ago, a friend bought one of the Uberti 1873 rifles for Cowboy Action Shooting. It was pretty, but the lockwork was poorly fit and it jammed frequently. Hopefully they have corrected the problems, but every Uberti I’ve ever handled demonstrated poor fit and poor metallurgy. I stopped handling them several years ago due to their quality.
