25 Horribly Sexist Vintage Ads
by Oral Adams
Since the 50s, a lot has changed in way of womens rights and their duties in and out of the house. I highly doubt any company could get away with phrases like The Chef [mixer] does everything but cook thats what wives are for! nowadays. Or how about an ad agency pitching a company an idea of a wife bent over her husbands knee as he prepares to spank her.

I feel very lucky to have a wife who's a "post feminist". She's of a generation (or breed) who are liberated not only from the old suffocating paternalism of days gone by, but also of the man-hating ultra feminism of the 70s and 80s.
She's been my business partner for 15 years, but is also a wonderful mother and wife. I have no complaints, and feel greatly blessed to have her.
On the flip side, she demands that I wear my hat like any man ought to. Keeps my on my toes, boy.
The worst ad I've ever seen in my life was by Ford a couple years back in which a divorced Dad has to thank his wife for a ride with his kids. It made me put $3000 into my F-150 rather than buying a new one.
Many cultures outside the United States still have men and women in more traditional roles. I know that in India, women, while valued and respected, still feel it is their role to care for their husband and to take care of the home for him, because he is the one who has to go out and earn and provide for the family. Sure, some of these ads are a little overt in being insensitive, or even a little cruel, but I’d bet that at least some of these were meant to be published in men’s magazines, so it’s not properly fair to call them out. Remember too that since women back then stayed home, they did a lot more gossiping with the other women in their neighborhood, and surely said as bad if not worse things about the men (and a lot more personal too).
Goldie Hawn??
Maybe it's more "sexy" than sexist.
I just needed to buy her a vacuum or an ironing board or pick axe?
btw, i am just kidding around here
Funny, that is exactly what I thought.
“Any guy who gets his wife a vacuum cleaner for Christmas is freakin crazy. wow.”
What happens if you do this.

Diamonds are a waste to any woman who works with her hands. A vacuum is appreciated every 10 to 15 years. Flowers or cards any time, especially if we grew the flowers ;-).
This link to a poster vendor has a better image. Both images I linked are from google images
There are even more sexist adds today.
Its not that the white male is depicted as the worthless dope, while Mom is the single handed savior.
Opps, you beat me to it.
ALWAYS
Oh my goodness!
That was unbelievable.
Thank you so much for that.
Actually, after viewing all the ads what’s changed?
Take away the word “wife” and most of this has come true.
Liberals have taken away any vestige of protection or specialness from womanhood.
These ads aren’t conservative, but a liberal man’s fantasy (I use the term man loosely only to differentiate genetically).
Now they’ve got the best of both worlds - a slavishly devoted sex toy without any of the responsibility or overhead of a wife and family.
The ads are as immature as feminists and metrosexuals.
Trust me, you give your gal gifts of a vacuum, ironing board, and pick axe, she'll find them all useful.
Especially the pick axe.
There was a time when people had a lot less money, and a vacuum cleaner would have been considered a very nice present because it lessened a workload and took quite a while to save for.
