The guy is actually trying to live up to his sworn vow to defend the constitution. Pragmatism aside, it appears to me he is a man with integrity who understands that orders from his superior officers are derivative of the constitutional authority of the commander in chief.
Just what he's expecting of the citizens of the US.

You can e-mail, d-mail, or a-mail and call from now to hell freezes over and it won’t matter. They don’t give a damn about what you think or say. If the passage of obama care did not make you understand this, nothing will.
I don’t disagree that he is a man of integrity who is honestly doing what he believes is right. However, that alone isn’t license to do whatever you believe is right without any consequences. Breaking the law (or regulation) for the right reason is still likely to bring consequences.
He knew the risks when he made the choice — and he’ll likely have to bear some consequences of that choice.
I also understand the fundamental argument that Obama has not proven his qualifications to give orders as CIC. That being said — the Colonel (or higher-up) who gave this Lt.Col. an order IS qualified to give orders. Lt.Col. Lakin is not permitted to ignore those orders.
Regardless of what one thinks of Obama’s qualifications ... Lakin disobeyed the orders of a qualified superior (or several), and he’ll likely have to bear some consequences of that calculated decision to protest.

It may indeed be that the law is what it is and Lakin will end up in jail. But in the civilian sphere, this has often resulted in the embarrassment of the authorities, and ultimately the triumph of justice. I'm thinking of the people who broke the racial segregation laws and were jailed for it. Again, a different context. But it will become more and more suspicious to more and more Americans why Obama is keeping his records such a closely guarded secret.
