Apple Inc. said Monday it sold more than 300,000 iPads in the U.S., including preorders, on the first day the device was available.
The company didn't give a precise figure, but the tally was below the estimates of some analysts.
Buyers flocked to stores starting Saturday after weeks of publicity about the tablet-style computer.
Apple hadn't offered iPad sales forecasts, but over the weekend, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster more than doubled his initial first-day sales estimate to between 600,000 and 700,000 units, including preorders, based on longer-than-expected lines at stores and high expectations for online preorders. He had also lifted his 2010 forecast to 5.5 million units from 2.8 million.

You have made huge downloads to fix security holes in your OSX when your masters at Apple have ordered you to.
LOL ... you're sounding pretty funny here... are you doing all right this morning... :-)
Windows 7 users on the other hand, are politely advised to download Microsoft Security Essentials ...
So, does that mean if I say "Please stop using your anti-virus program like the Macintosh users..." -- then you'll stop using it ... :-)
Here ya go(yet again):
Apple plugs 88 Mac OS X security holes
Apple today released one of its biggest Mac OS X security updates in recent memory, covering a whopping 88 documented vulnerabilities

“So, does that mean if I say “Please stop using your anti-virus program like the Macintosh users...” — then you'll stop using it ... :-)”
As long as you stop downloading patches from Apple to fix to the tune of 88 security holes a pop. They are both the same thing.
Excuse me, but where the hell did you get that notion? Just for the record, I retired at 38. I put myself in a position of never having to work again unless I want to. I'm one of the ones that has not been affected one iota by this economic downturn. Jeez, do you ever have a vivid imagination. Give it a rest. Conjuring up these notions about what you think I meant instead of what taking what I wrote at face value really makes you look like an idiot.
Excuse me, but where the hell did you get that notion?
You were saying in that last post "Course you might find that funny, too......"
So... I told you exactly what I thought was funny .... LOL ...
What I find "real funny" is how others expect those who are working and doing just fine to stop spending their money and stop going out and stop getting the good products that they want to use, because the neighbor down the street is out of work ... LOL ...
Now that's what I think is quite funny... hilarious actually...
“He found it hard to type and hold at the same time.
“My wrist gets a little tired,” he said. The device weighs 1.5 pounds.”
This is exactly what my initial thoughts were, that it would be an ergonomic nightmare.
This is exactly what my initial thoughts were, that it would be an ergonomic nightmare.
This is the area where the Apple "ecosystem" excels, from what I've seen. If there's something that people want to add to their Apple products, you can bet there's an Apple products dealer out there making it right now ... :-)
One of the things I was thinking about, since I know how I'll be using it (it will be like when I'm laying down and I want to read (at least part of the time, anyway... LOL ...). And I would like either something to suspend it over my head and I'll just lay there and read... doncha know ... (talk about being lazy, huh? :-) ...).
And another thing is perhaps a little stand for the desk and have it slanted up a bit, or on a friction swivel that can tilt to different degrees of slant, to work on it.
You can bet that Apple products dealers/developers/manufacturers are keeping their eyes open and ears to the ground, right now, with a new product and they're going to have all sorts of "add-ons" ready to go for the consumer...
What happens with Apple products (and I've seen this over and over again, is that Apple makes the basic product and puts just the right amount of stuff in it, for what the product is (not overloading and not too little, but just a right balance). And then, the field is left wide-open by Apple (and I'm sure, on purpose, in order to "feed" the Apple ecosystem) -- so that others can develop all sorts of "add-ons"... :-)
Here we go again:
Windows 7 = 90 million sold. (Impressive)
ipad = 300,000 sold (JOKE)
Windows 7 = 1 million apps
ipad = 3,000 apps (HUH?)
Windows 7 sold more in pre-orders alone, than the ipad will sell in the next 12 months.
Meanwhile, the gap between Windows 7 and the ipad continues to grow every single day. Since the ipad was launched, Windows 7 has probably sold another 6 million units.
After a massive 30 years of selling personal computers, Apple still can't even make the top 5 in sales, and is still grouped with the dreaded” others” category. Companies like Acer and Lenovo that entered the personal computer business long after Apple did, are busy slaughtering Apple in personal computer sales every month, with plenty of room to spare. Chortle!

Time will tell whether the new iPad, which debuted at stores in Santa Rosa and across the country Saturday, will revolutionize wireless communication.
But one thing is certain. The iPad, which resembles a giant tablet version of the groundbreaking
iPhone, made countless consumers happy Saturday.
At the very least, their electronic-reading, Web-surfing and video-watching experience just got a lot bigger.
The iPad's arrival was met with cheers and applause from about 75 people waiting in line at Santa Rosa Plaza, ending months of anticipation for the latest Apple invention.
Alan Fink of Cloverdale, dressed in a white button-down shirt and business tie, was the first to buy the iPad at the Apple Store. People cheered as he walked out.
"I just had to have it," Fink said as he rushed to his sales job at Freeman Toyota. "I've owned every product Apple has ever made. It's a game-changing device, no question about it."
The iPad, a handheld device that fits somewhere between the iPhone and a computer, allows users to view movies, browse the Web, play games and read e-books. Its competition includes e-readers like the Amazon Kindle and tablet PCs like the yet-to-be released HP Slate.
After the initial unboxing and lengthy syncing process came the first few minutes of play. On blogs and on Twitter, users began to echo the common refrain, "It's cool."
Edgar Abadines, a local mobile applications software developer and owner of Petaluma-based e4c Solutions, got his iPad when it was delivered to his home by a UPS driver Saturday afternoon.
Abadines has developed an app for the iPad called Pad Math, a learning tool designed for elementary school students. The application, he said, takes advantage of the "real estate" provided by the iPad's large screen, which comes in handy when doing long division.
At the mall, many waited in line with their iPhones, scrolling their tiny touch screens, snapping pictures of other customers or simply calling mom. The sheer number of people with iPhones and touch-screen iPods gave a hint of who the first iPad customers were.
"I'm not expecting it to save the world or cure cancer, but it looks like a fun gadget and a fun toy," said Dan Bell, a Web developer who lives in Santa Rosa.
Bell, who was talking to his mother on his iPhone, said he was buying an iPad as a gift for a friend.
"I'll probably get the next iteration of it for myself," he said, adding that he'll wait until Apple ships the iPad with more extras, such as a camera and more software capabilities that he can use for work.
Shortly before the Santa Rosa Plaza store opened, customers did a 10-second countdown. The first iPad customers were greeted by a small platoon of store employees who wore blue shirts with "iPad" in white lettering.
About 10 minutes after the store opened, Rebecca Babcock of Windsor arrived and got in the back of the "reserve line." There was a separate line of "walk-in" customers waiting anxiously.
Her iPhone in hand, Babcock said she was picking up an iPad for her husband, who had to work Saturday morning. She said he has both an iPhone and a laptop.
"I have no idea why he wants it," she said. "He likes his electronics and his fun stuff."
Abadines thinks the iPad will bring something new to the tech world.
"I'm really excited. It's different," he said. "There's obviously things I wish were included. But I'm pretty excited, it's new territory to explore."

Yeah by stealing ideas from other people and calling it their own..starting with when Apple “borrowed” the GUI from Xerox PARC. Apple then graduated to “borrowing” the iPod from Diamond, Creative Labs and other pioneers of the MP3 technology, then Apple again “borrowed” the iPhone idea LG Prada:
“LG Electronics Claims Apple iPhone Copies Prada”
Woo-Young Kwak, head of LG Mobile Research and Developement was quoted at 3GSM saying, “We consider that Apple copycat the Prada phone after the design was unveiled when it was presented in the iF Design Award and won the prize in September 2006. We take that to mean ‘Apple stole our idea.”
http://www.everythingicafe.com/news/iphone-hardware/lg-electronics-claims-apple-iphone-copies-prada-20070215101/
Bottom line: Apple has never invented anything in their lives. Not the GUI, not the MP3 player, not the touch screen smart phone, not nuthin’.
Aple is good at copying what others have invented, then shouting louder than anyone else about their “new invention”. That's about it really.
Oh yeah...
” and Apple has got it.”
And Apple is not it.
Gartner:
Consumers have enough sense to choose the superb, excellently made Toshiba laptops over the overpriced Apple macs any day.
Yeah by stealing ideas from other people and calling it their own..starting with when Apple borrowed the GUI from Xerox PARC.
Ahhhh... there you go again... coming up with facts that don't exist.
I know you don't about Apple, which is why you're so ignorant on them on your posts, but I'll try to help you out here.
Apple paid Xerox for it, in stock (details have been posted here repeatedly, but Windows users do have a problem with comprehension, doncha know... you have to repeat about 50 times, I've found before they "get something"... :-) ...).
Xerox made a bundle off the Apple stock and came out of that deal millions of dollars ahead.
And it was all cleared ahead of time by the headquarters, before they ever did it...
Like I said, I know Windows people do have a problem remembering and comprehending, but please to try to keep up on the facts... eh?
Okay, why don’t you two get a room.
You mean like this?

Room heck, they should take it on the road. Battling cultists is damn funny.
Or like this?
“Who Invented the MP3 Player?
Officially, a German company called Fraunhofer-Gesellshaft is responsible for developing and putting the MP3 player on the market. In 1987, Karlheinz Brandenburg, a specialist in electronics and mathematics, led research at the Fraunhofer Institut Integrierte Shaltungen Research Center. He, along with Bernhard Grill, Thomas Sporer, Bernd Kurten and Ernst Eberlein are credited on the patent for the MP3 player”
http://www.life123.com/technology/home-electronics/mp3-player/who-invented-mp3-player.shtml
Oops!
I don’t see Apple’s name being mentioned there.
Who Invented the MP3 Player?
Well, I know who made it "work" ... LOL ... and who sells a "bundle" of them... :-)
And that's exactly what Apple does... make things work the way that the consumers want. It's amazing that with the technology that is right at the hands of all the other manufacturers -- they just can't figure out what Apple has down pat.
The consumers know it, they buy it and the ole "MP3" player is "history" -- with the Apple iPod... doncha know....
Thanks goodness for Apple... where would we be without them and their fine MP3 player, the iPod... :-)
Okay, why dont you two get a room.
That's the trouble with those crazy Windows users, doncha know... they just keep "chasing" Macintosh users all over the place incessantly, because they can't stand any Macintosh user getting Apple products...
I'm running the other direction and there he is... still running after me... LOL ...
I'm on a Macintosh thread and "Lo and behold" -- here's a Win-turd guy... who can't stand anyone "being here" ... :-)
