The Apple iPad ushers in the era of tablet computing, with a slate-style handheld that looks nothing like a typical computer. in fact, the iPad is more reminiscent of an oversize iPhone than a laptop. But because the iPad's screen is three times larger than that of the iPhone/iPod Touch, you'll be tempted to use the iPad for activities you wouldn't consider doing with an iPhone. Innovative apps and content optimized for the spacious, high-resolution touchscreen make the iPad a treat to use. Nevertheless, the iPad's other limitations make it hard to recommend as a replacement for (rather than as a complement to) the devices you may be carrying around today.
Apple plans to offer six variants of the iPad, starting with the three Wi-Fi models available now: a 16GB model ($499), a 32GB model ($599), and 64GB model ($699). In late April, Apple will ship three additional models that tack on 3G capability, for an extra $130 each. The 3G models will also have a GPS chip inside.

Not so productive as we thought...
Apple iFail.
Just pinging you for any iPad posts... doesn’t mean you need to pay any attention to them... it’s just in case you miss one... :-)
I really don’t think that the tablet format is a winner over the netbook or clamshell format, for the following practical reasons:
1. If you’re going to transport it you’ll want something to protect the screen, thus the clamshell wins - you don’t need to get some add-on screen protector.
2. If you’re going to use it to read an ebook or document, either on a table or on a chair or in bed, you’ll want something to hold up the screen so you have your hands free. With the iPad you have to get a stand - more expense and annoyance. Again the clamshell wins.
3. If you’re going to do any serious typing having a separate real keyboard and the full screen adjustable to any angle available for the document is far better than having a virtual keyboard taking up most of the screen, or having to fuss with an add-on real keyboard (extra cost and inconvenience).
In summary, apple would have had a real winner if they had come out with a smaller version of the MacBook Air with a touch screen and roughly the same price.
I’m sure they’ll sell a lot of the iPad given all the hype, especially at the beginning, but my prediction is that it will peter out and won’t be anywhere near as successful as the iphone. And eventually apple (or someone else) will come out with a “cool” netbook that will supplant the iPad and other tablets simply because it’s a more user friendly format.
I’ll stick to my iPad nano — the little one with the phone, camera and 3g.

I’ve stopped wanting one. You can’t write comfortably on it; you can’t read comfortably with it. And it’s heavy to tote around, and doesn’t have any protection. Too bad. They lost me as a potential customer.
BS. My company has been developing real world productivity medical applications for Tablet PCs for over five years. The iPad is a toy.
FWIW, the area of the iPad screen is about 7.7 times larger than the iPod’s & it has just over 5 times the number of pixels.
IOW, typical Apple. Nice try, guys.
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
I appreciate it... Thanks
The stickers i get with my apple computers for work...
i stick them on really cool things i never use
Why does Apple get all of the free advertising in the MSM and even FNC for the last couple of days?
Why do so many idiots camp out and get in line to buy a $500-700 or so TOY? A couple of months from now they will probably sell for no more than $250, and still be just as useless.
P.T. Barnum would have loved the nerdie/techie generations that buy this crap.
Tablets have only caught on in specialized business uses. They use them for on-the-go networking diagnosis where I work. But the consumer tablet has never caught on.
And I wouldn't be surprised if your company made an iPad version of your software.
Right on the Toy. I can’t say what I want one for.

You know, it’s like the bulk of a laptop, without the protection of a foldover case and the keyboard. Hell, it’s nice to be able to watch tv and movies and surf the web without needing reading glasses, but seriously, how are you supposed to carry that thing around?
It I want to lug a big ole thing around, I’ll get a netbook. Or either use an Iphone or something.
This is about as exciting as that stupid Segway.
I looked at the iPad screen and was going THREE TIMES???? That iPhone must be wayyyy bigger than I realized!
LOL
I went to the apple store and checked one of the out. Sure it looks nice but after about ten minutes I realized it was a waste of 499.
First there are no USB ports or ability to share photos directly. This has to be done either through email or the computer it must sync with.
Second I personally like a keyboard got typing email and posting on sites like fr.
Third, its not really that big.
Fourth a decent netbook has vastly more capabilities and is half the price. I bought a netbook for 269 dollars w ten hours of batt life and can do anything I need w pc anywhere or any other business app I need.
Its a cool toy for entertainment only. But don’t get too excited. I cool thing though is that you can stream netflix videos.
It will display my portfolio very well. There are leather slide cases just as for the Touch See notice connector for SD card and USB
