I just refilled my high blood pressure medication at a Walgreens and the the retail price went from $83.00 last month to $100.00 this month.
Is it just me or are we already paying for the pharmaceuticals' protection money on this Obama-racket?
Gee, sounds like something to ask your senator and congressman. Especially if they are part of the obama cheer squad
Buy your drugs in Canada. I need asthma medication which is $130/month at Costco and I’m getting it for a quarter of the price via a Canadian pharmacy.
More like you have a case where these companies are already factoring in their projected expenses because of this bill. They know it will cost them XX dollars more so prices go up by that factor.
I recently filled a prescription at Walgreen’s that cost me three times what it cost elsewhere. Go find another pharmacy.
Get your doc to prescribe a generic covered by WalMart, $10.0 for three months.
Internal Memo Confirms Big Giveaways In White House Deal With Big Pharma
by Ryan Grim
A memo obtained by the Huffington Post confirms that the White House and the pharmaceutical lobby secretly agreed to precisely the sort of wide-ranging deal that both parties have been denying over the past week.
The memo, which according to a knowledgeable health care lobbyist was prepared by a person directly involved in the negotiations, lists exactly what the White House gave up, and what it got in return.
It says the White House agreed to oppose any congressional efforts to use the government’s leverage to bargain for lower drug prices or import drugs from Canada — and also agreed not to pursue Medicare rebates or shift some drugs from Medicare Part B to Medicare Part D, which would cost Big Pharma billions in reduced reimbursements.
In exchange, the Pharmaceutical Researchers and Manufacturers Association (PhRMA) agreed to cut $80 billion in projected costs to taxpayers and senior citizens over ten years. Or, as the memo says: “Commitment of up to $80 billion, but not more than $80 billion.”

My son’s allergy/asthma meds are $300-$400 per month, depending on the season. We usually just go without 1 or 2 as we cannot afford it. How do you find and order the meds from Canada? He often suffers because we are struggling just to make it.
Similar rises occurred right after the Medicare Prescription bill passed.
I had a prescript that was $12.50 one month before passage and jumped to $29.50 right after passage.
Three words (that apply to prescription drugs, insurance premiums, etc. - but will spread throughout the economy):
DEFENSIVE PRICE HIKES.
When you tell a business or industry that you are going to severely limit their profits in the future, regulate the hell out of them, tax them to death, and, oh by the way, take over setting both their budget priorities and their ability to manage themselves, well, GAAAAAHHHHHLY.
Of course those business will IMMEDIATELY start factoring in the coming disaster and (1) raise prices to help buffer themselves from the coming disaster while it’s still legal to do so; and (2) make as much money as they can now as a way to buffer themselves from the fact that the government is about to take a whole bunch away from them forever.
And just the fact that Obamacare is hanging over their heads is costing business RIGHT NOW. It’s the Full Employment Act for Corporate Lawyers, Accountants and Benefits Managers. They’ve got to pay people to help them figure out how to respond and reposition their business in a Socialist country.
Don’t look at the price, it will just raise your blood pressure.
What I said. This is defensive pricing and it will spread through the economy.
I freepmailed you privately.
Obama’s Fault
They OWN it.
If ANYTHING is not uphoric with your healthcare, Blame Obama and the Democrats.
I didn’t notice price increase but my insurance is starting to drag their feet on authorizing prescription refills and I got a call recently questioning the exact amount I take of one prescription. That was a first. It’s like they’re counting pills. I’ve never been questioned before (years).
My husband had a script for 6 months of refills on a cheap generic. There is nothing about this medication that would cause any eyebrows to raise, it simply breaks down a metabolic byproduct before it accumulates and causes problems. Walgreen’s said they had to call the MD to check before refilling.
There was a time about 18 months ago when DH decided he didn’t need the medication and so, he stopped taking it for several months. When he went in for a refill, enough time had elapsed that they told him he was not being compliant and checked with the doc before refilling.
We pay out-of-pocket. He buys 3 months worth at a time for $10. He has doc’s approval to take 1/2 the dose if things are going all right and this is not on the bottle. So, we usually have around 3 months supply on hand that is not recorded as such, although doc is aware of this. Doc is a conservative.
We are being monitored and so are the physicians.
