Colorado Tea Party April 15 Demonstration at State Capitol
direct report | flamberge
Posted on April 15, 2010 4:39:25 PM PDT by flamberge

About 3000-3500 people show up for the April 15 Tea Party protest at the steps of the Colorado State Capitol building.

It was a beautiful day for a walk in the park. A perfect day for a six year old girl to roll down the hill in the soft grass, for a vendor to sell cold drinks from a cart, for a skateboarder to zip across a street and hop over a curb.

The crowd appeared to be of mixed ages with a much larger proportion of young people than I had seen at previous demonstrations and even some children, playing under the watchful eyes of their parents.

The majority of the crowd was present by 10:00 at the announced start of the event. Additional people trickled in and by 11:30 the crowd had reached its peak. A steady procession of speakers and singers kept the crowd engaged with oratory, chants, and song.

Two black churchmen worked the crowd with consummate skill, explaining that the Tea Party protests cross all party, ethnic and racial boundaries. The leader called out to the crowd “I am black enough?” – to which he received a thundering “YES!”. He promoted free enterprise and a vibrant private sector economy as the best hope for all Americans.

A consistent theme of the speakers was “rejection and replacement”. The speakers called for rejection of government spending, rejection of onerous regulations, and rejection of higher taxes. Many of the speakers also called for the replacement of incumbents, Democrat and Republican alike.

About 20-30 counter-protesters gathered across the street in what seems to be a standard position for dissidents at these affairs. The partisans from east and west sides shouted at each other and brandished signs proclaiming their cause. A stream of northbound traffic kept them separated.

About 50 of the Tea Party protesters bracketed the dissidents to the north and south sides, hemming them in and reducing their visibility to the northbound traffic. This was an unwise measure in my opinion as it placed some extremely zealous dissidents in close proximity to their hated opponents. A core group of dissidents were extremely and proudly anti-American in their chants and their signage.

One dissident repeatedly harassed individual Tea Party protestors with a bull horn leveled 12 inches from their ears and tried to provoke incidents. Fortunately there were no responses. There were a number of curious dialogs between other dissidents and the Tea Party protestors which seemed quiet and respectful.

The presence of over a dozen police officers directly behind the dissidents probably kept activities to a reasonable standard of civility. It appeared that the police finally persuaded the west side Tea Party protesters to move away and avoid the intermingling that could lead to conflicts.

Meanwhile, inside the Capitol building the state legislature was in session. Swarms of lobbyists and staffers were gathered in the halls outside the chambers, and scurrying between offices. The House had a full day’s workload of topics on their agenda and was then debating terms of a new bill to effectively limit interest rates on “Payday Loans”. There is big money involved in that topic and the debate was running late.

The Tea Party demonstration outside was not on the lawmaker’s agenda.

I did notice a few of the state Senators were moving in the Tea Party crowd, though they were not on the speakers lists. There were several one-on-one conversations going in which the politicians seemed to actually be listening to the citizens.

Staffers in the various offices were polite and helpful when I requested access to their windowed offices to take elevated crowd pictures. They seemed to be flattered that 3500 members of the public had showed up to their important work place, and were completely willing to interrupt whatever they were doing to accommodate me – and others with the same request.

The demonstration was breaking up by 1:30. I thought a fine time was had by all.

It was a nice day at this event held on the State Capitol Steps. Warm and only light breezes. No infiltrators. A very small group of Obamabots counter-protesting across the street. Heard radio news say estimates of about 4,000 in attendance. Smaller turnout than last year. Photos follow.

Today, I was up in Hartford to attend the Hartford Tax Day Tea Party Rally. The rally had up to 5,000 people in attendence. Great speakers, including my friend and now online radio show host, former WTIC AM radio local mid-morning talkradio show host, Jim Vicevich. A number of tea party folks also spoke, making the decision to run for political office. Helped out today with one of the information booth. A great day that was experenced for those who had attended.

This is to start a place for all WA state tea party ralliers to report in -

Olympia - just got back from the second tax day rally on the capital campus. About 4000 attended. To me, seemed a little less than last year’s rally. Great crowd, good speakers. At least the rain stopped so we all did not get drenched.

San Diego Tea Party After Action Report and Photos (4-15-10)
4-15-10 | CAluvdubya
Posted on April 15, 2010 7:57:41 PM PDT by CAluvdubya

Here are just a few photos at just one of the 10-12 sites for the San Diego Tea Party earlier this afternoon.

SoCalPol and I arrived approximately 90 minutes prior to the scheduled start at the Midway branch Post Office near MCRD (Marine Corps Recruit Depot). There were already almost 200 people at that time.

We had one “plant” that showed up and the pictures below tell the story.

The only sour note was the “End The Fed” Ron Paul folks spouting off their anti war, 9-11 truther propaganda. They really upset the older veterans (proudly wearing their Marine caps and shirts) listening to the Paul-icks ranting that we blew up our own citizens in the Twin Towers on 9-11, and that no plane went into the Pentagon. What a shame *sigh*

Since there are several locations, please add photos from wherever you went today.

Those Veterans were visibly angry upon hearing this garbage.

After Action report Escondido, CA
Self | April 15, 2010 | Armsted Fragg
Posted on April 15, 2010 7:21:06 PM PDT by ArmstedFragg

Nice turnout at Escondido, California’s gathering, about 600 patriots lined both sides of Escondido Boulevard near the downtown post office from 5 to 7pm. Friendly folks, good spirit, lots of happy waves from passing drivers.

The event was preceeded by an hour long demonstration of support for our police chief, who’s under attack by local Hispanic activists for his insistance that drivers be properly licensed and insured.

It was also nice to see this kind of turnout of support on the day after our City Council voted to put a pacifist sponsored “Peace Pole” on city property. The polls, as some are aware, are the work of an obscure Shinto religious cult, they contain a prayer, and they’re the favorite token of the anti-war movement these days. The pole was sponsored by our delightful Hispanic Activist Councilmember, Olga Diaz, and approved by the same City Council that wrings its hands when the words “Jesus Christ” are inadvertantly spoken by one of the local ministers during the evening “moment of reflection”.

For some strange reason, Christian religious objects cause them to have paroxysms of anxiety about their constitutionality, but Shinto religious objects are just fine with them. You suppose it has something to do with the political positions associated with them?

Well, yeah, just maybe.

White Plains, NY Tea Party After Action Report!

Posted on April 15, 2010 3:10:05 PM PDT by God luvs America

Nice crowd today, at least 1000+ people in front of Westchester County Center. Last year we may have had 250. The event went three hours from 4PM-7PM and was still going on when I had to leave.

Nice mixed crowd- seniors, black Americans, lot of latino’s, veterans and people running for congress. Numerous media outlets on hand including See BS (last year there was one). Several good speakers. The theme was to keep the momentum going and Remember in November! Lots of solid signs; Its’ Not About Care- It’s About Control! Sorry Yet? (the –o- using the emblem of chairman zero). Amazing support from people driving by.

About a half dozen sad looking protestors. One sign displayed the complete hypocrisy of the liberals; “Teabaggers are spreading hate every day”….oh, but calling me a teabagger is not hateful???

Greensboro, NC Tea Party (after action report, vanity)
freerepublic.com ^ | 4-15-10 | Wbill
Posted on April 15, 2010 7:32:31 PM PDT by wbill

OK, so this is a total vanity, but I didn’t see anything on FR about the Greensboro Tea Party today. Zot away, if I’m out of line, here.

So, I was there. I’d guesstimate 2500-3000 people - the entire plaza in front of the courthouse was full, along with all of the staircases and balconies on the buildings surrounding the area. It was a really good turnout in my opinion. Parking was hard, Traffic was terrible - the worst I’ve ever seen in the city.

I was hoping to hear from / talk to some of the local conservative candidates. I wound up being a few minutes late (stuck in the lousy traffic) so I might have missed their speeches. All of them had booths of some sort, but frankly, I wanted to talk to (or listen to) the candidates themselves, and not just a supporter with a sign.

Other than that, it was a great time. The emcees had a number of just Average Joes (and Janes) come up and say a few words apiece. The show stopper was a gentleman from Cuba who compared a lot of what we’re seeing now, to what he left his home country over.

News coverage tonight was mediocre. They estimated 2000 people, I think that they were under by a little, but then again I’m not the best at estimating crowds. The newsbabe spent more time talking about a handful of hippy-dippy counter protesters, a couple of blocks over, and one person who tried to make a scene. I saw neither of these counter-protests, and I would have driven (very, very slowly) right by where the hippy-dippy one was happening. They couldn’t have been much to talk about.

The 6 o’clock coverage can be found at this link: http://wghp.com/wghp-triad-tea-party-100415,0,4779236.story. I just got done watching the 10 o’clock coverage a few minutes ago.

So, all in all, good turnout, news coverage was about what you’d expect, and not a whole lot in the way of disruptors (as many were fearing).

Fort Lauderdale Tea Party

Posted on April 15, 2010 7:13:27 PM PDT by sig226

The Fort Lauderdale Tea Party was held in front of the Federal COurthouse on Broward Boulevard this afternoon. I got there at 4:30. It was supposed to start at 5:00, but there was already a good crowd. Lots of bemused (and bored) looking Broward County Sheriff’s deputies attended. I honestly did not know that my county had that many horses. There must have been 25 mounted officers.

So let’s get to the pictures. Liberals claim that conservative women look like Helen Thomas. The ones I saw did not look, or act like some liberal slug.

On site are images of the event, as well as video coverage of several speakers, including presidential candidate Herman Cain, Georgia 7th District candidate Clay Cox, and others.

I’ve also included a short clip of some young people who were either SEIU representatives or pretending they were from the union in order to ruffle some feathers. They were treated with politeness by all who saw them, though they left not long after I snapped their picture and videotaped them. You’ll notice a photo of a girl from their group in the slideshow–she’s the one holding the sign about how capitalism is bad for the environment, “people of color,” women, developing countries, etc. When I asked if I could take her picture, she smiled and held her sign proudly, likely because she thought from my hang-tag that I was from the regular media. I thanked her and, as I walked away, said, “You didn’t have to bother smiling. I’ll be using that as an example of liberal idiocy.”

It wasn’t too bad. A nice peaceful protest with a few exchanges between the Tea-Partiers and the ‘Coffee-Party’ idiots. We numbered 1,000 or more and I would say there was probably only 50 Coffee Idiots there.

At one point, I got into an exchange with an ‘independent’ who claimed to be against ‘Reaganomics.’ He tried to tell me Reagan had the first ‘Trillion Dollar Deficit.’ Which was completely inaccurate. It was useless trying to explain to the man that ‘Debt’ and ‘Deficit’ were two entirely different things... He was a moron who was laid-off while Reagan was president and blames Reagan and Bush for ‘destroying’ his life... Anyhow, he’s the fat guy in the red shirt in the still shot that’s in the video. This shot was taken by a Wichita Eagle reporter and I was surprised to see it published. You only get to see the back side of me, though. hahaahaha...
