If you ever commit a murder...

Posted on 03/12/2010 7:35:12 PM PST by Minn

...be sure the first thing you do next is dispose of the shoes you wore to do the deed.

It seem every other case on "Forensic Files" hinges on a killer strolling into the police station wearing the same shoes they tracked blood all around the victim's house with. What are they thinking?

Well, to hear some people tell it, as stupid as cops are it’s a damned good thing we have stupid criminals :-)

Truth is, most people who commit any crime, including murder, are not on the plus side of populations mean IQ. Your BIL’s story being a perfect example.

There are always those who think they are so far above the average intelligence of everyone else they can simply get away, literally, with murder. Thankfully they are in the minority.

Personally I would never believe my thought is above yours. Some of us come from a very descriptive background but wish a way to convey it without all the hard. We did it God. Let us talk about it! :^)

You are right. I knew someone who killed their 90+ year old step father by suffocating him. Almost got away with it too. Their brother ratted them out after three months of spending the insurance money.

Rule #4.... cremation of the old guy would have prevented finding the drugs in his system.

Its funny, the person had no problem with murder, but their religious beliefs prevented them from cremating the body.

As i said earlier....stupid people commit murder.

Actually the high temp of the casing burns the oils of the fingerprint right into the metal. Makes it almost impossible to destroy or wipe off.

How do I know this crap?

One of the first things I learned in my college criminology class was that criminals’ IQs are statistically well below average. There actually aren’t that many evil geniuses out there.

A real friend will help you move a body.

Anyone who asks you to move a body has a strong incentive to kill you after.

If you're innocent then silence puts you at a disadvantage.

To the contrary, especially if you are innocent silence is your best friend.

Remember EVERYTHING you say is taken down. Think "sound bites"

All you should say is that you want a lawyer and then shut up.

In my concealed weapons class, taught by a police officer, we learned that whenever you are under sudden stresss, you say and do stupid things. The chemical reaction of the brain will make you babble like an idiot.

He told us the best thing to do when you are caught up in a situation like that is to either tell the cops you want a lawyer and shut up; or tell them you are having chest pains and get yourself to a hospital—where you can gather your thoughts. Then call a lawyer. The worst thing to ever do is speak to the police without someone there to help you.

Not sure I agree in all cases.

Understood

All you should say is that you want a lawyer and then shut up.

If I was being investigated for a *serious* crime I would very probably get a lawyer but would,at the same time, make it clear to the cops that I'll cooperate with them in every way.Answering questions,DNA samples, personal records...whatever.That is,assuming I was innocent. If I was guilty I'd clam up and demand a lawyer....period.

Remaining silent when you are,in fact, innocent, greatly increases the chances that you'll be brought to trial. With me,for example...I'm old enough to have had a draft card (pretty old) and yet I've never had a single criminal charge lodged against me anywhere in the world....not even a littering citation. The cops would easily know this, particularly after taking my fingerprints (I've been fingerprinted twice...once by the Army and once when applying for a firearms permit). The DA would also know this. So,if I'm investigated for some serious crime and I am,in fact, innocent I'd tell them that along with answering any questions that they have. They walk into their conference room and say..."hmmm,this guy says he didn't do it.The story he tells sounds plausible. We should check out what he says. Also, this guy's XX years old and his record is as clean as my 3 year old granddaughter's.Would he wait until the age of XX to commit (fill in name of felony here) when he's never even had a damn jaywalking charge lodged against him?"

In that kind of scenario I'd probably have a very good chance of avoiding charges...let alone a conviction.Again, assuming that I didn't do it.

OK,now why don't you bring up Nifong....

Friends help you move. Good friends help you move bodies. Spouse killing has to be very carefully planned. The clearance rate on murders by people who do not know each other is practically zip.

OK,now why don't you bring up Nifong....

You brought him up :)

Actually in the case of a Nifong you are in deep trouble even if you have a lawyer and remain silent. Happily there are not that many out there like him although even one percent can ruin your life if you happen to run into him.

My concern would be a tired cop who just wanted his day over and a good closure rate. If they can twist what you say just a bit then they have closed a case and go home. They are far more numerous and in someways they are far harder to fight because they don't have a clearly provable motive to set you up. To them there are two types of people in the world, cops and perps, if you are not one then you are the other.

And no, a clean record is no protection. They simply assume that you have just been clever enough not to get caught.

I have a number of family members who are or were in law enforcement from the federal level to the local level. They all told me the same thing, say nothing until you have calmed down and you have a lawyer to objectively evaluate your statement. Sometimes it is the most innocent who are the most likely to stick their foot in it and find themselves in court.

Bulsh*t.

Innocent people get convicted all the time because they 'cooperated.'

Cops/DAs get just as much credit for convicting innocent people as guilty ones. It doesn't matter to them.

They figure even if you're not guilty this time, you certainly are guilty of something.

Even the cops admit this, and recommend remaining silent, for people with more than two brain cells in a row:
