The good news is that if you eat all that prepared crapola, you’ve probably built up such a resistance to poison that whatever’s wrong with it won’t affect you.

Is this because of the high MSG levels that accompany the hydrolyzed proteins?

Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein Product Recalls

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is actively investigating findings of Salmonella Tennessee in hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) manufactured by Basic Food Flavors, Inc., in Las Vegas, NV. HVP is a flavor enhancer used in a wide variety of processed food products, such as soups, sauces, chilis, stews, hot dogs, gravies, seasoned snack foods, dips, and dressings. It is often blended with other spices to make seasonings that are used in or on foods.

For those who don't know what HVP is, this from Wiki:

"Acid-hydrolyzed vegetable protein, or HVP,[1] is produced by boiling cereals or legumes, such as soy, corn, or wheat, in hydrochloric acid and then neutralizing the solution with sodium hydroxide. The acid hydrolyzes, or breaks down, the protein in vegetables into their component amino acids. The resulting dark coloured liquid contains, among other amino acids, glutamic acid, which consumers are more familiar with in the form of its sodium salt, monosodium glutamate, or MSG. It is used as a flavor enhancer in many processed foods.

A similar product, from dairy origin, is hydrolyzed whey protein.

Other sources of glutamate, sometimes used in conjunction with HVP, include autolyzed yeast extract and hydrolyzed yeast extract.

Because of the high levels of MSG in hydrolyzed vegetable protein, people sensitive to MSG should avoid hydrolyzed vegetable protein.[2]

In the case of soy sauce, a residual of the soy protein hydrolyzation process creates the carcinogen 3-MCPD."

Kinda like Peggy Bundy's contribution to the demise of "The Healthiest Man in Chicago."

close, this is what was was offered to ease the fears of people that the food police had scared off from MSG. MSG hydrolyzes in the stomach to Glutamic acid which is the most prevalent amino acid in the human body.

Y’know, like—

Didn’t even realize it was making the rounds in TN until I read this post. I’ve become so cynical of all the salmonella, e-coli, etc. stories that cyle round. Honestly, I’ve grown complacent and ignore them. Easy for me to say since I have no family members (infants or seniors) who are immune-compromised. I swear, it’s become epidemic...don’t eat the tomatoes; don’t eat the peanuts; don’t eat the pistachios; don’t eat the lettuce...the canteloupe...the green onions. Ad nauseam. Oy!

It’s the people who are picking, preparing and shipping our food.

Luckily, the hydrolyzed vegetable protein is so toxic, no disease can survive it. Thanks LadyBuzz.
