Tiger Woods’ Wife Elin 'Wants Half His Fortune' as She Prepares to Meet Divorce Lawyers
The Daily Mirror (UK) ^ | 12/16/09 | Ryan Parry

Tiger Woods’ devastated wife has called in California’s top celebrity divorce lawyer, say her friends.

And Elin Nordegren – rocked by her husband’s string of alleged affairs – could get half the £337.5million he has earned in the five years they have been married.

The 29-year-old Swedish model, seen out in Florida yesterday minus her wedding ring, is believed to be meeting celebrity lawyer Sorrell Trope next week.

Trope, 82, a partner in Californian law firm Trope and Trope, has represented big-name stars including Cary Grant, Nicole Kidman, Nicolas Cage and Britney Spears in a 60-year career.

And in another blow to Woods, Elin is believed to be planning to file for divorce in California – where the couple have a home – and not Florida, where they live.

Under California law the “no-fault divorce”, introduced in 1970, means there is an equal division of assets and property.

This could mean that any pre-nup agreement Elin signed with the golf star will be torn up.

A source said: “Mr Trope is the best divorce lawyer in the business and the divorce laws in California are much more favourable than most other states.

“Elin can fight for half of what her husband has earned since they were married. And Trope can bust through any pre-nup – he’s done it many times before.”

Last night, when asked if he was representing Woods’ wife as her divorce lawyer, Trope replied: “Not right now.”

Friends say Elin will spend Christmas in Orlando with the couple’s children, daughter Sam Alexis, two, and son Charlie Axel, 10 months, before filing for divorce in the New Year.

If I were his spouse, I’d take him for all he’s worth.

There’s cheating, there’s miserable cheaters, then there’s what what the hell was he thinking, there’s no excuse for that cheating.

I think you are confusing greedy with pissed. They both will cost you but the second you bring on yourself.

"Quite surprising to see Mickelson at no.2 and ahead of LeBron! Very interesting."

I thought so too. I live in OH, and my local station did a story on LeBron last summer where they quoted those stats. I didn't believe it, so I looked it up. It was true.

Besides Bearing Point, I couldn't name another product that Mickelson endorses - maybe Callaway, which can't be that lucrative. Oh, Rolex too. Whomever he endorses, the corporation(s) must find Mickelson of value.

“Elin is endanger from going from a very sympathetic figure to being a gold digger.”

I seriously doubt that she would have given Tiger the time of day if he’d been a regular working stiff. She probably still would have “married up” as beautiful women are wont to do, maybe just not a “up” as Tiger turned out to be.

Wow, she did not marry him for his looks!

It’s amazing what a billion bucks will do to improve your appearance.

The judges and pols who allowed the family courts to become a gynocracy should have been hanged.

If she was cheating I'd agree with you. I think they should make no fault divorce only an option if both agree.

In her case, I think she deserves half of what he earned while married to her. I do not always feel this way, but he has put her through hell.

You said: “Its called pregnancy and labor and life long damage to your body by giving birth to some mans child(which gets HIS name by the way) That is a pretty big “something”. How about sex? giving him a family life? we don’t know what she did. perhaps she did most of the work around the house. besides what did HE do??? golf???? are you friggin kidding me? thats WORK??? yeah right.”

Spare me. Women having the kids is the way the world has worked since time began. There’s no excuse for what Tiger has done, but to blabber about the trauma of childbirth that “some man” (i.e., the husband) has done to you as reason to get everything when things go South is more than a little ridiculous. Even if you don’t have kids, honey, gravity will reduce any beauty and tautness your body may have to an unattractive level by the age of 40 or 50, anyway. At least you have the love of the kids to make up for the acceleration in any loss of attractiveness their births would bring on.

Re your last comments, uh, hello, golf was the income stream. If you think it’s a laughable occupation, guess that’s why you’re not married to a golfer (if, in fact, you’ve enticed some man to marry you at all, which I doubt). In any case, I seriously doubt that Elin did anything more strenuous than get her nails done after telling the nanny and the household help what chores to do.

Perhaps your anti-male comments would find more resonance with your fat, manless, and hairy-legged friends over at DU.

I find it hard to believe that anyone could defend the disgusting behavior of Tiger Woods. He was someone that I had held in high regard and now find him totally offensive and disgraceful. From all accounts his wife, Elin, was a good wife in that she let him live in the limelight without her prancing around like some spoiled rock star. She bore him two beautiful children.

Evidently he had sex with every trollop he met and by accounts of at least one or two he had unprotected sex. He not only insulted and defiled his marriage and his wife but he exposed her to the possibility of a fatal STD like AIDS.

How dare anyone think this woman doesn’t deserve to screw him royally....as he did every woman who crossed his path. More power to her...take him to the cleaners...she deserves it for the death sentence he could have given her and for the disgrace he brought to the entire family.

It’s absolutely disgusting to try to knock her down to somehow hold him on his pedestal.

This has nothing to do with putting Woods on a pedestal. She was a swimwear model, for goodness sake, not the living incarnation of Florence Nightingale. Angel, floozie or the second coming of the Madonna, she's not remotely earned half of Woods's income over the past 5 years. The kangaroo courts we currently have will disagree, of course, so she will get her pound of flesh, and then some.

well, he had plenty of endorsements before he got married, so it would be hard to justify that the endorsements were solely because of his family image. They were primarily because he is the best golfer ever. He had a wholesome image, which certainly contributed to his value as a spokesman, but that was not DUE to her. It was something that existed from the beginning with his mother and dad, too. She deserves a good chunk, and it will most likely be governed by the prenup. As many said here, Tiger is not going to hire hack lawyers for this, especially given that he was not planning on fidelity.

“Wow... not a bad salary for 5 years of work.”

This guy played Russian Roulette with HER HEALTH for 5 years so she deserves the hazard pay. I can’t be emphatic enough. She earned it.

Why would you hero worship a complete stranger? And then transfer your hero worship from him to his wife? I have no interest in golf and have heard Woods is a phenom. That's all I know about him. What I know about his wife is that she's a swimwear model who met and married him after he had gained fame and fortune. To say that it's a great burden to be associated with fame and fortune and to live a luxurious life (complete with servants waiting on her hand and foot) that most can only dream of is preposterous.

It is reasonable to say she was used by Tiger during those 5 years to enhance his marketable image.
Most of Tiger’s $$$ come from his endorsements. No image - no ad money.

Add in the fact it is becoming more and more apparant he actually committed fraud.
Convinced this woman he was serious about marriage- family.
He clearly never had any intention of being a “husband”.

If there was a previous pre-nup written up by great lawyers before the marriage, I doubt it will get thrown out because Tiger was a dog.
If they did that, then there would be no reason to allow pre-nups.
And if she moved to CA to attempt to get a better deal then Florida, I think that will get booted out as well.

That said, I feel bad for her and Tiger sucks.

you are right - children need both parents.

Unfortunately - it appears Tiger’s kids have already been missing out on having a dad.

He’s been a bit busy.

If the total ‘marital assets’ are $500 million, I would give her $30-40 million plus child support.

If she in fact contracted a venereal disease from Tiger, then there could be additional damages by way of compensation.

Regardless how religious or romantic the ideals may be, marriage is a legally binding contract. You stand before God and man, pledge your fidelity until death do part. Breaking a contract costs money, the more money you have the more it costs, add intentional tort (the cheating) and punitive damages are awarded.

She modeled some swimwear, that does not make her evil, in fact, it was probably part of the package that Woods wanted. She gave him a couple of kids, she was never acused of cheating and by all appearance was a loving wife. She apparently was doing her part. If things were not good on the home front, get some counselling, quietly get a divorce, deal with it like an adult.

If your wife has to read about your 3-fers with hookers and hear your girlfriends complain about being cheated on, well, she has her pound of flesh coming.
