There’s a gal in my fitness club that wears a hat just like that when she works out. She’s a hottie. Palin could wear a pork pie hat and look good in it.

I wonder if the person sniggering at her hat actually listens to what she says. It’s amazing what too many people think is important these days.

In Woman of the Year Katharine Hepburn wore some funny hats. One so outlandish that a man sitting behind her at a baseball game (Spencer Tracy played a sports writer) had his view of the field obstructed.
But who cared? In her day no woman was more beautiful than Hepburn. Great legs on that gal.

It’s a very silly thing to be discussing at all, but I suppose it’s typical that for DU types any kind of green brimmed hat reminds them of their favorite murderous tyrant. If Sarah were 4’ 11” and had her hair permed into a mushroom cloud shape on top they’d probably say it’s the Kim Jong Il look. Fact is, she makes anything, even John McCain at her side, look good.

FWIW, this is the hat of the season. In the stores I've seen them referred to as "paperboy" hats. Sometimes they have a softer form, but the bill retains the same, short shape.

2- The “castro hat” is actually a standard US Army issue “fatigue cap” from the 1950s.

Thus it is a variant of a US Army fatigue cap.

Elvis is wearing that “Red Army ushanka” becuase it is not a “Red Army ushanka” but a standard issue US Army cold weather hat from the 1950s and 60s. There were still some of these around in the 1970s when I was assigned to the 3rd Armored Division in Germany. The crest on the hat is that of the 32nd Armored Regiment, Elvis was assigned to Co D, 1st Bn, 32nd Arm, 3rd Bde, 3rd Armd Div in Friedberg, Germany during his service.
