Hello: Please do not ZOT me. I am a member here for 5+ years. I did this because I had a question that involves my family and know that the freepers are great at advsing/giving asnswers. Yes I joined today and I did this because I don't want my family's business running around the net:
1) I have two sons that were sick. One had cancer and went through chemo. He was covered by my insurance as long as he stayed in college. He fumbled and is not in school at the momnet. When this happened my insurance did not cover him anymore. He cannot get insurance now because NO company wants to do it becuase of the pre-existing clause. Is there any insurance company or way that you guys know of that he can get insurance. He's free of the cancer now but the insurance problem is so bad now that he is making plans to move to Seattle, WA so that he can get on their community insurance program.
2) I have another son that has diabetes. My insurance still covers him. But once he hits 22-23, he will also be dropped by the insurance company. What can he do?
Guys dont ZOT me ok. Or at least give me some time to get some replies or FreepMail me. This is a post of desperation. Yes this is a vanity. But we have been looking for months now and the boys keep asking "Why is Obmama's plan so bad?" I would appreciate some postive replies or suggestions. Hey Jim, you run a great site. I love it and it IS the best. I voted Bush,Dole,W,MCain OK guys? GOD BLESS THE USA AND YOU ALL.
There is a problem in private insurance with pre-existing conditions. If you ran an insurance firm you would understand the firm’s point of view.
There could be ways found around this problem.
If you have a catastrophic illness such as cancer or diabetes especially if kidneys are involved, a catastrophic coverage would be appropriate and no ban on pre-existing.
The states that regulate their own insurance companies could do this without the federal government running everything.
The problem with Obama’s so-called plan is, it’s not intended to fix healthcare, it’s intended for the federal government to gain control over everyone including their bodies and their wallets and their lives and death.
And that is true whether there’s a so-called public option in it or whether it comes in the guise of regulating the insurance companies. Obama himself tries to hide it now but for years prior he made speeches to his lefty buds saying he wanted “a single payer plan” which means federal total government control, and he wanted it no matter how long it took to get there - 10, 15, 20 yrs. of gradually destroying employer based coverage.
If your young men don’t know what is wrong with that, it’s unfortunate they haven’t already learned that.
The Republicans have some worthy plans posted online that would help your sons, truly, without destroying the healthcare system and our freedoms.
But of course, that’s not what the Socialists in charge now want.
Good luck and God bless...
I think that he/she is saying that he/she has been a member under another name, but wants to remain anonymous on this issue to protect his/her family's medical privacy.
1. If the cancer treatment was completed, then it may not not necessarily be subject to a pre-existing condition exclusion. Even so, a new plan has limits on 'exclusion periods' - quoting now from the Dept. of Labor site: "HIPAA limits the preexisting condition exclusion period for most people to 12 months (18 months if you enroll late), although some plans may have a shorter time period or none at all."
2. If you kid has no insurance today but did less than 63 days ago, then do everything you can to buy *some* insurance quick so that the calendar doesn't run out.
SO don't panic. And by the way: my son was just diagnosed with leukemia -- I cannot imagine having to go through gov't red tape under an Obama plan (or any other Natl Health plan) with what he had to go through already. I am VERY BLESSED to had had my private insurance.
bogey on the wire........sniff,sniff
Go back to utopia.
No response to the nice folks who have offered help and or advice?
With employment in a larger company they can get healthcare.
A good zotting is deserved for his atrocious grammar....
According to the Congressional Budget Office, Obamacare will increase the deficit by 300 billion to 1.6 Trillion. That works out to somewhere between $3000 and $16,000 per taxpayer.
Obamacare doesn't preclude public funding for abortions. Something most conservatives consider murder.
Obamacare will fine employers 3600 per year per employee for not offering healthcare to employees. That will put small businesses out of business and hurt the people that it's supposed to help.
Citizens will be forced to buy insurance or pay penalties.
The federal government has no right to do this. The Consititution limits the role of Congress to defense and regulating (making regular) interstate commerce.
Most of the proposals have no mechanism for preventing illegal aliens from getting free healthcare.
There seems to be a presupposition that if you’re denied healthcare insurance, that means you don’t get healthcare. No, it only means you have to pay for it yourself. Good reason to start a Health Savings Account. The nice thing about these is that you put pre-tax dollars into them, sheltering some of your income.
Many health insurance companies offer coverage for everything except the disallowed preexisting disease state. For instance, if your son who had cancer wants to apply for coverage he can stipulate that he’ll be covered for broken legs and hernias, asthma and diabetes, cataracts and corns, heart disease and high blood pressure—but not for cancer.
If he spends five years cancer-free, he should be able to get regular insurance again. I have friends who have survived two bouts with cancer and still have coverage.
Hospitals and major cancer treatment centers will accept a payment plan.
If you want a very brief answer for why the obama plan is so awful, there’s plenty of information available on the Internet. Suffice it to say in the briefest way that the government’s previous experiments in taking over healthcare—here in the US with the VA, Indian Health Service, Medicare, and Medicaid—have been a disaster of ever-escalating costs and ever-declining care. No other nation has had success with the concept either, with the possible exception of Switzerland, a tiny, socially homogeneous, and very prosperous nation that accepts only the very rich as immigrants.

You burned up five years in a single morning?
Why you lyin' to me Phyllis?
I believe Starbucks has benefits for part-time workers. That would be one option. Also, they MIGHT be able to get a health insurance policy on their own with a rider that excludes treatment for their pre-existing condition. My husband had back surgery many years ago, and when we got our policy from Blue Cross, it had a rider stating anything related to that injury and surgery would not be covered.
Try working with an insurance broker who can help you find policies for them.
Another option is for them to find out what they have to do to qualify for your state’s coverage. Here in Arizona, it’s called AHCCS, but I don’t know how low your income has to be to qualify.
As for your other, older son, if he's healthy enough to move to Seattle, he's healthy enough to get a job, isn't he? If not, then he should be on Social Security and he'd get medicaid. Either way, problem solved.
Or, if he just wanted to run his own business, he could get whatever your state's equivalent is of Blue Cross/Blue Shield Adult Basic coverage. It'll run him about $300 a month, but if he can't swing that and you're unwilling or unable to assist him with it, then he needs to get a job with benefits.
Sure, using an account created today. Either you're lying about being a member so long or you don't want your current post to be linked to your other FR account.
It's a bit hard to get past the deception to the actual questions in this post.
What companies did you find that would accept you? Do you have riders for those conditions?
If this program in Seattle works, why do we need a national program that kills our current system, interjects mediocrity where there is currently excellence, and drives the best of our medical doctors out of the healthcare business?? Obama’s plan is a one-size-fits-all that only really works for a few at the detriment of many.
