Men lose their minds speaking to pretty women Talking to an attractive woman really can make a man lose his mind, according to a new study.
Pat Hagan 03 Sep 2009
The research shows men who spend even a few minutes in the company of an attractive woman perform less well in tests designed to measure brain function than those who chat to someone they do not find attractive.
Researchers who carried out the study, published in the Journal of Experimental and Social Psychology, think the reason may be that men use up so much of their brain function or 'cognitive resources' trying to impress beautiful women, they have little left for other tasks.
The findings have implications for the performance of men who flirt with women in the workplace, or even exam results in mixed-sex schools.
Women, however, were not affected by chatting to a handsome man.
This may be simply because men are programmed by evolution to think more about mating opportunities.
Psychologists at Radboud University in The Netherlands carried out the study after one of them was so struck on impressing an attractive woman he had never met before, that he could not remember his address when she asked him where he lived.
Researchers said it was as if he was so keen to make an impression he 'temporarily absorbed most of his cognitive resources.'
To see if other men were affected in the same way, they recruited 40 male heterosexual students.

“Whatta great pair of togas!”
Mr. Orkin, heir of the family that started the pest control company, has the same picture hanging in his office. I assume Ruth is a relative.
GWB, HOT, HOT, HOT!
Thanks for the post.
GREAT story! It's so sweet when guys kind of lose it and fumble around pretty gals ... makes me love them all the more (I am a man-lovin' gal). One thing this study doesn't note, and I believe this applies no matter whether the female is pretty or not: if a woman is so distressed that she bursts in to tears, especially if the tears are genuine, it triggers the Hero in men and they will almost always offer help, begrudgingly often as not, and even if it inconveniences them. They say women are the tender-hearted, but I swear, I'm inclined to conclude that in their own way, good men posess hearts at least as tender -- it's just that they're not wired for nurturing, as we women are.
We women should always remember: Men are the sole protectors of women.
OK even you guys have to admit she’s a Butterface.
“This started with Adam, and his pretty wife Eve holding that damn apple.”
Agreed! And it shure as heck takes root in me!
Nice Balloons

I never was too good at seeing ugly, at least on the outside. As you point out, though, there are some exceptions.
I’m speechless!....
Drool! I haven’t seen this picture. Boy does he look good all cleaned up. And just think, he looks hot and he didn’t need to use silicone to get that way. Dang! Are there any single FReepers that are in his category?

Tears are not necessary for me... major distress is not either. Unhappiness in someone who I know is good (and I always assume that in someone I know nothing about) is all that it takes.
You are wise to woman recognize the utility of men as protectors- too many people (both men and women) don’t understand that.
Great pic of Pres.Bush I had not seen before.
Probably almost all single FReepers are in his category or they wouldn't be on Free Republic.
Thanks for that.
It is something some of us take very seriously, whether defending a lady from unwanted advances, physical violence, or a simple automotive breakdown... I would never take money for such a thing, though it is often offered. I simply ask the woman to remind her husband or father that he is obliged to do the same when the opportunity arises.
It used to be that way naturally. Now, about half of the women treated as such (given their right and their due) are uncomfortable with such an arrangement, rather than appreciative.
It all depends on what “attractive” means.
Yes, but Jackie is my favorite. Quite a change for me because I favor Dark, exotic Men./Just Asking - seoul62.......
