STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (AP) -- Police say a 61-year-old man annoyed with a crying 2-year-old girl at a suburban Atlanta Walmart slapped the child several times after warning the toddler's mother to keep her quiet.

Get a grip. A bratty ten year old crying for a toy has a weak willed ‘friend’ parent. A two year old crying needs a nap, but mom needed to buy groceries, and people need to get a grip.
To me a child crying is a joyous sound. Life renewed. Love realized. And it ain’t mine!
No one touches my children. NO ONE.
If there's any spanking to be done, it's done by me.
If anyone slaps my kids, he’d be wearing his nuts for a hat.
So, he couldn't control his overwrought emotions and behaved like, as you say, a spoiled brat.
I would have broken the guy's arm.
As my dear sweet mother used to say, “You want to cry? I’ll give you something to cry about”! But any stranger who would have dared to lay a hand on one of her kids would have been a dead man!
I have a daughter who looks very normal, but has severe brain damage.
One day when she was about 4 (and totally non-verbal), she had a meltdown at a store. She was big by then, and I couldn’t pick her up. I managed to get her outside, but couldn’t get her in my car.
Instead of offering to help me, people just called her a spoiled brat.
I got so irritated that I yelled at one guy “She has cerebral palsy, and I could use some help!!!!!!”
Now, she has a seizure disorder that can cause strange emotional type seizure. Before she got diagnosed, she would put her hands over her ears and scream “Shut UP, Shut Up, Shut Up”. When I told her regular doctors about it and the school about it, they all thought I was over-reacting. When she had a grand mal seizure, and then a very, very abnormal EEG, everyone started listening to me.
She is almost 13 now. The medication she is on helps with the strange emotional outbursts, and she can talk. She is in regular education. She’s a bit different, but she is very well-behaved.
Just remember that because a person looks normal does not mean they are normal. My daughter is extremely pretty, and that just throws people off.
Like I said, General Patton would probably wonder who in the hell some of you people are if he were subjected to reading some of the posts here.
Decaf is your friend, not implicitly communicated threats on the internet.
She and my son would make a good match. (j/k)
He’s a bit old for her, though. He’s 16, and severely autistic, non-verbal. He looks “normal,” handsome (although now packing on the pounds)...until he breaks into spontaneous skipping or jumping and giggling, or echolalic noises. And he can get upset and wig out or start crying for no apparent reason.
Heaven help the bystander who attempts to physically “discipline” MY child for crying or acting in any way that that jerk doesn’t like.
I just think that this "I am gonna kill everyone" stuff is really getting out of hand on this website.
I also hope that your daughter is doing well.
Good advice for the mad-slapper.
That being said, you are completely off base with your ‘friend/parent’ thing. Not that the phenom isn't out there, it most certainly is; but its applicability in THIS case is ludicrous.
We have a grumpy old man who thought it was his place to commit assault and battery upon a two year old because the two year old was crying.
If you go out in public you WILL hear children crying, whining, being brats. If you think it is your job to do something about it .... that way leads to madness.
A crying child is a joyous sound to me.
That said, there was still no excuse for the stranger to slap the kid. If the mother refused to control her child and Walmart's management refused to speak to the mother, then the stranger should have simply left the store and taken his business elsewhere. At least that's how I'd handle it.
Any man who hates kids and animals can’t be all bad.
i would have ripped this guys arm off and beat him with it if he touched my son...
look, i totally believe in discipline and i spank my son when he deserves it...but isn’t it interesting that in the state of AZ, you can be ARRESTED for spanking your child in public??? how are we supposed to discipline our children when some tool can call the cops on you??? it’s BULLS**T.
Welcome Newbie. Now you’re criticizing people for saying they would defend their own children. Now let me know first if you have any, second tell me exactly what you propose a parent do in a situation in which a male stranger grabs and starts hitting their two year old child.
This ought to be amusing.
I’ve never been known to slap other peoples’ kids, but Mrs. Liberty and I have been known to sometimes openly applaud people who exercise the necessary discipline on some cherubs....
