A majority of adults in Canada, the United States and Britain believe global warming is a fact and is mostly caused by emissions from vehicles and industrial facilities, according to a poll by Angus Reid Strategies. At least 51 per cent of respondents in the three countries agree with this statement.
Conversely, 21 per cent of Britons, 19 per cent of Canadians and 17 per cent of Americans believe global warming is happening but is mostly caused by natural changes. Also, 20 per cent of respondents in the U.S., 16 per cent in Canada and 16 per cent in Britain believe global warming is a theory that has not yet been proven.
The term global warming refers to an increase of the Earths average temperature. Some theories say that climate change might be the result of human-generated carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. In 2007, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a report which states that global warming has been "very likely"or 90 per cent certaincaused by humans burning fossil fuels.
In 1998, several countries agreed to the Kyoto Protocol, a proposed amendment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The agreement commits nations to reduce their emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. The U.S. has not ratified the treaty, which is due to expire in 2012.
In October 2007, former U.S. vice-president Al Gore and the IPCC were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change."
Last month, Jonathon Porrittthe outgoing chairman of the British governments Sustainable Development Commission (SDC)expressed dissatisfaction with the commitment of current British prime minister Gordon Brown to the fight against global warming, saying, "Hes got some incredibly fixed ideas. (...) Environment has never been Gordon Browns strong suit. Tony Blair fully understood the risk of climate change, and whatever you may think about him his commitment on that was completely genuine."
Methodology: Online interviews with 1,012 Canadian adults, 1,005 American adults, and 798 British adults, conducted from Jul. 23 to Jul. 28, 2009. Margins of error range from 3.1 per cent to 3.5 per cent.
I’m shocked — I didn’t think 20% of Americans would be this intelligent.
Propaganda works.
Im shocked I didnt think 20% of Americans would be this intelligent.
You got that right. I am currently in a discussion on another thread where I am trying to explain how a poll can suggest that a majority of Catholics voted for Obama, even though that should be counterintuitive.
The questions in this poll are invalid. Man makes his enviornment warmer just through body heat and farting. Even the most liberal scientist accepts the fact that the sun is responsible for 99.999999999999999999999999999999% of the Earth's warmth. 99.999999999999999999999999999999% of the rest comes from internal geology. So-called "green house gases" may trap some of the Sun's heat, but nature accounts for well over 99% of those. So even if you believe in global warming, you would be wrong to believe that man is mostly responsible for it. The poll did not ask if man was responsible for -some- of it. I still would have said "no," but at least yes would have been a valid response.
Elections have consequences, I’m afraid.
Majority agrees; Winters are too cold, summers are too hot. Government should do something about this.
Yeah, sure.
Since my son started working on his phd in marine biology and surrounded himself with liberal scientists he has bought into the global warming hype. He tells me that he is looking at the raw data nearly every day and talking to climate scientists and it is really worse then what makes it into the media. He keeps going on about feedback loops and how the numbers are coming in worse than predicted and stuff that was predicted to happen in a centuries will now probably happen in decades. He said he used to think people of my generation would have the luxury of dying off before the worst happens and they have to face the guilt of what they left their children and grandchildren but now he is not so sure. I thought that was a very hurtful thing to say and we got in a fight and havent really talked since. I emailed him some research I downloaded from the net showing that many scientist doubt global warming and he just sent back an article detailing how several of them were paid by the oil companies and previously were paid by the tobacco companies to claim smoking had no link to cancer. No personal note just the article. Its bad enough I cant talk to my daughter because of this whole health care mess but now I cant talk to my son either. It really is a different world than it used to be.
Just by the way the “article” is written it is obvious the bunch was looking for a certain outcome. When that is the case, the outcome is just that, what was desired.
When I was studying sociology in college (my major) it was drummed into us that the most difficult thing is establishing methodology that injects the least possible bias (some is always there), gets the most accurate results while influencing the respondents the least.
Now, find me a liberal group that has that for a goal in ANY survey.
I love that headline. If that many people believed in Santa Claus, it doesn’t make Santa a fact.
That’s why this particular video documentary has to be shown to everyone possible...
Its one thing to gripe and complain about these things and disagree with it, but its quite *another* to convince your friends and neighbors and relatives and coworkers...
THEREFORE..., its also absolutely necessary for people to know the information in the following documentary. If there were simply *one* video that you could see and/or show people you know... this would be the *one*...
The following is an *excellent* video documentary on the so-called Global Warming I would recommend it to all FReepers. Its a very well-made documentary.

Three countries that belong to a dying culture.
He was a man who believed in his theory and the facts that supported it despite of the dangers and what people thought.
It reminds me of the Birthers.
They didn’t ask me!!!
There ain’t no global warming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.A majority of adults in Canada, the United States and Britain believe global warming is a fact and
and reality conforms to the beliefs of the majority! [/sarc]
You've never been polled?
I was polled once in Detroit... its still painful 15 years later.
MSM: God’s Existence A FACT
Just as soon as they solve the "Jessuca Alba doesn't want to go to Block Island for the weekend with presido9" problem.
I pray it is so.
Mentioning Al Gore in any discussion of global warming should fall under Godwin’s Law = fail.
