Good morning to all of you gardeners. The last day of July and I am wondering what August has in store for us weather wise? One thing I do know is the weather will continue to do what it wants and the only thing you can do about it is to accept it or move somewhere else. Of course once you move the weather there will change.
Weekly Gardening Thread
I hope all of you will stop by.
This is typically a low volume ping list. Once a week for the thread and every once in a while for other FR threads posted that might be of interest.
If you would like to be added to or removed from the list please let me know by FreepMail or by posting to me.
Whoohoo! I have cukes and 'maters from my garden. Tasty! Tasty!
Good morning Red. How are your maters doing?
Fer sure. It’s free! LOL
I’ve got a lovely crop of coconuts ... my gawd ...could you give some sort of warning, or disclaimer tag before people click on this video lmao? Early morning coffe out my nose and on to a freshly laundered/starched dress shirt.
Like, gee, I mean ... it was a surprise, well not a surprise but if you know what I mean it caught me unexpected you know when I was really looking for deep thoughts to sustain me ... you know what I mean get me through the day ...cause I thought I was going to learn if you know what I mean a better way .... a new way to revive, and grow my coconuts.
Please tell me this is not the average level of young people to day. The only thing is she probably has just as much intellect as the councill she is addrssing.
I have NO idea what I just said but I’ve got to go tend to my cocounuts doncha know.
Happy gardening all. Very wet here, but tooo much tooo late.
My tomatoes are still doing great. I have been doing a lot of canning especially tomato puree.
Wow! How did we ever miss such a simple resolution to all our
problems?
Pollinating pumpkins this morning...helping the bees out where I can...
Morning Red
As bad as I hate to say it, I'm sure that the word "hurricane" will be involved at some point for someone here. Living on the Gulf coast, this is our most feared time of the year.
Most gardening is pretty well over here except for some late producing veggies. My personal veggies have been done for almost a month. And it is just too hot for anything other than routine maintanance of the flower beds.
Happy gardening to all
Watermelons, melons, eggplant, peppers and beans doing very well.
Still fighting the thrips from Hades along with nasty black and brown catapillers on my tomatoes.
Gave in and used Biocide last evening late so the bees wouldn’t be around and impacted.
I’ve never, ever had such a severe bug problem as this year with the abnormally cold wet Spring, and now middling temperatures and high humidity and rain.
Yeah, we’ve been putting up tomatoes ourselves, as well as peas.
We got 1/2 inch of badly needed rain yesterday and chance for more today. Everything is burning up here in central Texas. This is approaching the 1950 era drought. Water rationing is in effect.
Sorry LOL! I don’t grow coconuts any more - to many bimps on my head in the past years.
Our weather guys were griping all month about how little rain we’ve had. Well, within the last week, we’ve had nothing but rain (except for yesterday).
I don’t garden as much as I once did, but I have one tomato plant in a pot on the front porch. No red tomatoes yet, but at least I have some green ones. For a while I had a lot of flowers, but no tomatoes.
Things could be worse. I could be in Seattle where it was 103 yesterday.
Cukes and ‘maters here too. It finally sprinkled a little here yesterday. Nothing much to make a difference but better than nothing all summer.
Previous years we didn’t pick cuke or tomatoes until mid August. This year I have picked as early as mid July. That’s good for this area. (CNY)
It’s been a good year for my gardens, good but everything is late due to the cool weather. My berries were 3-4 weeks late but had a great crop, and a late frost wiped out my tomatoes (oopsie, I used the calendar to move them outside rather than common sense.
I’m expecting August to be cooler than usual for the East Coast, but that’s based on nothing more than the rest of the year being cool.
