Is this a reference to John Maynard Keynes and his theories? Somehow I dont think deliberate government action means reducing taxes and regulation.
Take a look at the accompanying chart. The country voted for Hope and Change in 1932. How was that working out seven years later?
Way I see it...if let’s say 10% are unemployed...that leaves 90% employed! Not so horrible, you know?

Here is an example on how the New Deal was not working. Notice how the drop in unemployment only progressed to 37. After that it was on the upswing again, and the economy was on its way back down. Had there been no problems in Europe that necessitated the Lend-Lease Act this trend would have probably continued and you very likely could have seen FDR replaced in the 1940 election.
It was the increase in production brought on by World War II and Britain and eventually Russia’s war material needs that lifted us out of the depression, not the New Deal. It would probably do the current administration a world of good to pay close note to that fact.
You are assuming the current administration really wants to lift us out of the current economic difficulties. I don't see much evidence of that. They seem more inclined to gather as much power and wealth into the hands of government as they can before the opposition can get organized to stop them. They have the invented crises of global warming and health care to keep us skeered and compliant. They probably figure a real crisis like massive unemployment and high inflation would help their cause.
That’s a good point. I lose sight of that every now and then since in my mind the purpose of government is to serve the people it governs, not control them.
Posted on the bulletin board in the break room of a small company......
A LETTER FROM THE BOSS:
As the VP of this organization, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barrack Obama is our President, and that our taxes, and government fees will increase in a BIG way. To compensate for these increases, our prices would have to be increased by about 10%
Since we cannot increase our prices right now, due to the dismal state of the economy, we will have to lay off six of our employees instead.
This really bothered me, since I believe we are family here, and I didn’t know how to choose who would have to go.
So, this is what I did. I walked through our parking lot and found six ‘Obama’ bumper stickers on our employees’ cars, and I have decided these folks will be the ones to be let go. I can’t think of a more fair way to approach this problem. They voted for change; I gave it to them.
I will see the rest of you at the annual company picnic.
Gee, how was that New Deal moving along in 1939?? lol
It was a lot more than 10%
Actually government spending on war materiel would not have lifted the depression. The Great Depression really ended right AFTER WW2
That's right, government and education. Typical Democrat administration...
