I haven't heard anything about it in awhile, but I thought that I heard that after a debate between Keyes and Obama, Keyes asked Obama if he had a birth certificate. Obama replied that it wouldn't be an issue, because he doesn't need to be a natural born citizen to be a senator. The audio was removed from the internet also. Does anyone remember this?
First I’ve heard of it but it would be pretty damaging if true and we weren’t living in bizarro world.
No, this was a hoax according to these comments (including the Independent Party) on FR a while ago..

I don’t recall, however, it wouldn’t be an issue as “natural born” isn’t a requirement for holding a Senate seat.
The only thing I remember of Alan Keyes during that campaign, living in Chicagoland, was Keyes singing on the radio on multiple occasions, usually a few bars of “Over the rainbow”.
While he sang pretty good I could never figure out what it had to do with anything.
I have heard of the Alan Keys debate, but have never seen it on u tube of any where, to verify it..
I wasn’t aware that Alan Keyes showed up for that race.
Obama 69.97%
Keyes 27.05@
You missed the point. IF Obama implied he wasn't a natural born citizen that would indeed be interesting. But it doesn't sound like there is anything here.
Don’t know about the Senate race, but he did file a law suit, asking California to withhold its electors from certifying Obama as President until he shows proof of Citizenship. Not sure about the status of that case.
I think, if Obama had said such a thing...during a debate with Alan Keyes, Dr. Keyes would be screaming from the mountain tops (and providing audio).
It would be great if it ‘was’ so...
Welcome to FR.
I seem to recall asking Tom about this a while back and he said it was a hoax.
I'd suggest asking Keyes. He will recall the discussion. I'll also guess that, because it was either a news conference or radio debate, that some Illinois reporter has a tape. Of course, he/she can kiss his career goodbye if
his identity is revealed.
We joke a little, but this is becoming a police state. All of us are defined as terrorists, and that may really have consequences some day soon.
I actually watched some of the debates they had on PBS, and I remember him making some very bold statements. One I remember is when he bravely stated that he considered homosexuals to be moral degenerates. Some might say he just used the race as a publicity stunt, but personally I respect a guy like Alan who will say the same thing to a friendly crowd of supporters and to a hostile liberal television audience during an election.
Had this happened, I'm certain Alan Keyes would be frequently reminding us about it.
I appreciate Alan Keyes’ frank comments, too. I recall Barry Goldwater making very frank comments in the 1964 Presidential race. He was excoreated for it, but he (at that time) was one of the few honest politicians in the land.
Even if Obama is not a natural-born citizen, do you really think that the Congress, the Supreme Court, or whoever, has the intestinal fortitude to actually attempt to dis-inaugurate him? I frankly don’t think that they do.
More reason for Texas to secede. :)
Keyes came in rather late in the process, after the judge in Calif took care of Ryan’s chances.
Keyes went into that race knowing he would lose but he went anyway. Frankly he’s got nothing to be ashamed of. At least Zero didn’t run unopposed as he hoped would happen.
If we're going to be treated as terrorists whether or not we deserve it, what's the deterrent from giving it to 'em but good? Indeed, what's the incentive not to?
These power-mad imbeciles better think twice about thus categorizing any large, extremely pissed off, well heeled, Constitutionally supported chunk of the population.
If our form of government ever ceases to be "of, for, and by the people" (that's us!), we are then obligated to remove that bastardized version (by any and all means necessary...) and replace it wih a Constitutionally constrained version. And we have the numbers, the will, and the tools to do it, especially if the morons decide to try and treat us as the terrorists.
The 15-20 million hard-core liberals in this country (the predominantly anti-gun crowd) can lay awake at night thinking about the 85 million-plus of us who know what Hoppes is used for, and actually love the smell of it.
Let 'em come, I'll put on my Jimmy Cliff CD. :-)
I would not call it a hoax. I would describe it as an unanswered question with varying interpretations of what is indeed a “natural born citizen”. It is independent of place of birth. I won’t even go into the details and I am not sure I buy people’s arguments that Obama is not a natural born citizen. It could be that Obama is indeed qualified - I don’t know.
My concern is less about Obama specifically and to see that some process has been taken to ensure the Constitution is being followed. If Obama is qualified - so be it. But so far there has been no process to prove to the American people he is qualified. This “don’t ask don’t tell” approach to qualifications for the highest office in the world is way too sloppy for me and sets an awful precedent. Our enemies are watching this and laughing.
Keyes came in rather late in the process,
Just curious......... Do you think it would have made any difference at all?
