Did you hear about the guy that lives on nothing? No seriously, he lives on zero dollars a day. Meet Daniel Suelo, who lives in a cave outside Moab, Utah. Suelo has no mortgage, no car payment, no debt of any kind. He also has no home, no car, no television, and absolutely no “creature comforts.” But he does have a lot of creatures, as in the mice and bugs that scurry about the cave floor he’s called home for the last three years.
To us, Suelo probably sounds a little extreme. Actually, he probably sounds very extreme. After all, I suspect most of you reading this are doing so under the protection of some sort of man-made shelter, and with some amount of money on your person, and probably a few needs for money, too. And who doesn’t need money unless they have completely unplugged from the grid? Still, it’s an amusing story about a guy who rejects all forms of consumerism as we know it.

ACORN: the San Diego Tapes

It’s getting difficult to find adjectives and perspective to add. This latest tape is definitely the creepiest if not the most shocking. At this point, there’s little to add. It’s clear that this behavior isn’t isolated. It’s clear that this behavior is indicative of a much bigger problem at ACORN. As I said, these tapes didn’t even necessarily cover new ground. The evidence that ACORN is a criminal organization is overwhelming. What these tapes did was confirm that in a visual way, and visual is by far the most powerful medium.
Right now, the House Republicans are attempting orchestrate what their colleagues in the Senate already accomplished. ACORN is being investigated in no less than 20 states. ACORN is watching its house crumble on top of it. The walls are closing in. In fact, it’s every cliche for a big, big, big problem for ACORN.
The ACORN emperor is really wearing no clothes. They are being exposed little by little for the rotten and criminal enterprise that they are. All I can add at this point is just how these tapes culminated a confluence of events that has brought us here. If you watch news coverage of ACORN, reporters remark as fact that ACORN is really a collection of hundreds of affiliates. Most may not know that this is something that was only discovered in the last year. That happened after the investigation of board members Karen Inman and Marcel Reid. They were tasked with investigating ACORN following the disclosure that Dale Rathke had embezzled a million dollars. For their trouble, the two of them were removed from the board of ACORN and eventually formed ACORN 8.
Much of what we know about ACORN comes from the investigation that was started as a result of the embezzlement. We know that Citizen’s Consulting Inc. is the financial arm of ACORN because of that investigation. We know that multiple ACORN affiliates share office space as a result. We know that board members often serve on multiple boards of ACORN at once.
This is important because as a result of these investigations the public knows exponentially more about ACORN in the last twelve months than they ever have. The group used to be able to operate in the shadows but that has been lifted. So, after about a year of shocking disclosures, these tapes came out. All of it together has created the perfect storm to watch the full and total downfall of ACORN. That’s what we are witnessing as we speak.

SEATTLE, Wash. — September is National Preparedness Month, and this year the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is using the calendar observance to focus on changing perceptions about emergency preparedness, and helping Americans understand what it truly means to be Ready. Being Ready is all about taking four simple but all-important steps: get an Emergency Supply Kit; make a Family Emergency Plan; be informed about emergencies and their appropriate responses; and get involved in community preparedness initiatives. According to FEMA Acting Regional Administrator Dennis Hunsinger, the time to make proper provisions for pets is before disaster strikes.
“Including pets, working animals and livestock in disaster planning can be vital to peace of mind and should be part and parcel to basic emergency preparedness,” said Hunsinger. “If you must evacuate your home, it’s always best to take your pets with you, but plan ahead. Work with your office of emergency management to learn about evacuation policies and pet shelters.”
Sound animal disaster preparedness planning should encompass: one week’s emergency rations and water; identification tags, leg bands or tattoos; pet first aid kits; and current photos of your animals, filed with your important papers. If you use a ‘pet sitter’ while on vacation, discuss disaster plans and evacuation sites, and if your regular veterinarian does not have a disaster plan, locate one who does.
Detailed plans for pet and livestock owners are available at www.ready.gov, but basic guidance includes:
* If you must evacuate, take your pets with you. If you are going to a public shelter, it is important to understand that animals may not be allowed inside. Plan in advance for shelter alternatives that will work for both you and your pet.
* Make a backup-up emergency plan in case you can’t care for your animals your self. Develop a buddy system with neighbors, friends and relatives to make sure that someone is available to care for or evacuate pets if you are unable to do so. Be prepared to improvise and use what you have on hand to make it on your own for at least three days, maybe longer.
* Ensure that pets and livestock have some form of identification that can facilitate their return.
* Do not corner wild animals or try to rescue them. Call your local animal control office or wildlife resource officer.
* Do not approach wild animals that have taken refuge in your home. Open a wibdow or provide another escape route. Should the animal stay, call your local animal control office or wildlife resource officer.

I have lived with some ‘odd’ animals over the years.
Hitler, the cat, who would not eat nachos, unless they had salsa on them and if I refused to keep feeding them to her would find my purse and pee in it.
TT is still not eating his cheese, he leaves his for Purr, talk about a job of brainwashing.
I suspect that Purr knows what is needed for her body and will continue to give her cheese, she eats both dry and canned food, tho not as much as TT.
Big smile, not difficult to figure out that the poor baby sees something, that he wants to chase and maybe catch.
He looks like he is going to get out anyway he can.
