Weekly Roundup - Living On Nothing Edition Category: Roundups | Comments(15)
Did you hear about the guy that lives on nothing? No seriously, he lives on zero dollars a day. Meet Daniel Suelo, who lives in a cave outside Moab, Utah. Suelo has no mortgage, no car payment, no debt of any kind. He also has no home, no car, no television, and absolutely no creature comforts. But he does have a lot of creatures, as in the mice and bugs that scurry about the cave floor hes called home for the last three years.
To us, Suelo probably sounds a little extreme. Actually, he probably sounds very extreme. After all, I suspect most of you reading this are doing so under the protection of some sort of man-made shelter, and with some amount of money on your person, and probably a few needs for money, too. And who doesnt need money unless they have completely unplugged from the grid? Still, its an amusing story about a guy who rejects all forms of consumerism as we know it.

These stories are very entertaining. Maybe Scott could bring you a laser light. They are only about $3.<<<
LOL, you do not know how Scott shops, he hates buying the cheap stuff and keeps spending my money on name brands.
I will just have to try the flash light on them.
LOL, did you know that you can heard geese at night with a flash light?
“folks on the street are running scared and there is far more going on in any town than you will hear on the news.”
Last night I went to the 24 hr. grocery store about 11 pm. I’ve done this many times in the past and there are always several other people shopping, people restocking shelves, service desk people and checkers. Last night the entry door was locked and a sign saying enter through the exit door. You had to pull the door open. I entered the store and saw 1 checker and 1 bagger. I didn’t see any other customers and no one was stocking the shelves. It was kind of creepy. While I was checking out I asked the girl about the locked doors. She said they have had a lot of theft lately, even during the day. She said more people are using coupons and a lot more people on WIC due to unemployment. There was a mistake on my bill, which I missed at checkout due to our conversation. I went back to the register and she said I’d have to come back today, as the service desk people leave at 10 now. This store is on a major road and in a generally well off community. I was taken aback to hear about all the theft going on. She said it was due to the bad economy and people needing food. She also relayed that a few days back some kids had snuck in and down the aisles and she caught them trying to steal a case of beer. Due to her good descriptions the police caught them 20 minutes later and they were all underage. She said they had a get away car waiting for them. This whole thing just creeped me out last night. We live a short ways out of town on a more rural road, but it was very unsettling.
(trying to catch up from where I left off. I don’t like to miss any posts)
“Sounds like you are running a doggy-daycare!”
Sometimes it feels like one. I was looking forward to downsizing dogs and hubby tells our son to drop Jake off if he wants. They carpool to work so he comes to our house most mornings anyway. He’s a good dog and all, I was just trying to cut down on dog hair.
“That’s why so many of us at FR love to hear your stories, mLady. “
We love your stories, Granny. I’m often relaying them to hubby. I enjoy hearing about your adventures; you’ve had a very rich life.
” Instead, took and passed ham radio license test, spent several hours at an emergency preparedness field day,...”
It sounds like you had a very rewarding day learning valuable skills and information. Your time spent doing that will make a difference in the future.
Guess you’ll have to save that mission for another day. (can’t say a rainy day, since that’s what you had)
“Everytime I go to one of these events, they get bigger and bigger. It is heartening to see, in a time of angst. “
They are getting bigger and whether or not the media wants to report them or not, I think the gov’t knows the numbers are growing. If I had not gone to DC, I would have participated in a local event. With as much disheartening news we have to listen to every day, its very encouraging to gather with patriots.
“The kids at the Tea Parties, etc, that I’ve attended here were wonderful. “
There were lots of kids with their parents at the rally. I remember seeing them, but not ‘hearing’ them, like you do when kids have tantrums or such. Very well behaved.

LOL, yes, you caught the mood exactly.
I am amazed at the trash TT creates, their are used empty of tea leaf tea bags all over the house.
Trash of all kinds, TT loves trash, it is fresh fighting stuff.
She also relayed that a few days back some kids had snuck in and down the aisles and she caught them trying to steal a case of beer. Due to her good descriptions the police caught them 20 minutes later and they were all underage. She said they had a get away car waiting for them.<<<
They do a good job of running too, it is amazing to me that a kid can have a 12 pack in each hand and outrun a whole crew of cops.
Fools, do not realize they are on store camera’s inside and out.
In some towns, the whole town is on camera.
That is why I have been listening to the police scanners, they tell the real story of what is going on.
There is a lot of shop lifting, other than the beer, some caught and some not.
I am very worried about all the rape, not only in Las Vegas but the news alerts from San Diego and Denver show that it is massive there as well.
Last night a young girl was raped, someone saw it in progress and call 911, the cop got there, and did arrest the man, but his voice was shaking, when he asked for the ambulance, for the young girls face “has been brutally beaten”.
Even in old age, I think I would kill a man raping someone, to hell with waiting for the cops and lawyers.
I too used to go to our local store/mini mart late at night, one night a strange couple came to the far corner where I was looking at the produce and all of a sudden I was cornered. And something told me to run.
I gave the cart a hard shove and left the area, went to the cashier and asked him ‘what in the hell was going on’, for he had been talking to them when I came in.
He did not know them, by the time we turned to look at/for them they had vanished.
That stopped my late night shopping, for there was a danger in them following me home, easy to do out here in the country, wait and watch the car lights, they would not even need to expose themselves in the store, just park in the lot and wait for someone who bought a lot of stuff.
Home invasions are increasing and the criminal is not afraid of anyone.
I heard part of a dispatch and the crook was using a ‘nail gun’ as a weapon.
We love your stories, Granny. Im often relaying them to hubby. I enjoy hearing about your adventures; youve had a very rich life.<<<
It is interesting, that I have touched so many facets of life, that others do not, I never fully understood why it had to be me, but many of the experiences, later could be traced back and understood, why God planned for that move next.
Not all of them were such fun, while they were happening.
Bill would say, “wait a while, you always make something happen”, if I dared admit that I was bored with life.
LOL, and it always did.
I did not know you could herd geese at night with a flashlight.
That made me recall your story of the goats and the cone of light outside your house in Wellton.
Do you miss that place? I know Kingman area is not your favorite.
Also, have you been able to keep up with the horrible scandal going on with ACORN? A young couple have been undercover, posing as a pimp and a prostitute at ACORN offices, asking for help in getting a house and explaining that they can’t get help from the banks. They are open about wanting to use the house for a prostitution business. On the tape they go on to say they want to have several underage (13-15 year old) girls illegally from El Salvador to be whores in the house they buy with help from ACORN.
The dinosaur media isn’t talking about it at all. And with this short paragraph, you know more about the matter than most Americans. Fox News, Andrew Breitbart’s new biggovernment.com site, YouTube, and Glenn Beck have talked about it, but not ABCNNBCBS. Very sad.
BTTT.

Do you miss that place? I know Kingman area is not your favorite.<<<
YES!!!
Wellton was at that time a dirt poor town/area of real people, simple, not many educations to be found and hard working.
I find lots of education in Kingman, but few real people, fewer still with a soul or caring heart.
After Bill’s truck accident, due to the poor maintenance on it, the Water District let it be known that if you took Bill’s side, you would be fired.
So the mechanic appeared in the middle of the night and told me the truth, about their orders on how to save money.
People from work brought everything from hay, to washtubs full of squash and even a full pickup load of grapes.
They tried to help, with what they had to offer/share.
Here, the Free Cycle group here, is the first that I have found in 32 years that shared what they had.
Here, you must either be a big shot in a church or a gambler and want to talk about the jackpot you won and only cost twice as much to win, as you won.
I have been told that I lost more sales in real estate for telling the truth, when other agents would have smiled and said how great the town was.
If you want to drink and gamble, come on over, this is the right place.
If you want to start a weird cult, come on over this is the place.
Except to be honest, we rarely meed the cult type people, of course that is unless they take a part in the Oklahoma City bombing.
In Wellton, my friend Mary, had a Williams and Mary college education, she was from Virginia and quiet daring in 1920 to go there, where her cousin introduced her to the man she would marry and love for the rest of her life.
Mary taught me all the things that my mother had not, plus all she had learned in her 85 years ...
Or Grandpa Ira, from Oklahoma, who had 2 days of schooling, and had worked in the fields all his life and was a fine friend and teacher of all things in the animal world and invention wise for tools.
Or their was Faye, who opened a tiny store with used clothing, I was sure that I had learned things she should know in San Diego, as she was another Oklahoma Lady with a 6th grade education.
LOL, she taught me much of what i would still use today, on operating a small business and growing to the limit of the town’s buying ability and how to buy the stock in a variety store in a small town, with many races and little money.
We could sell you a 10 cent toy, a diaper for the baby, or order you the finest gun on the market.
And there may still be some of the “educational games”, that I ordered in the mid 1970’s, on the shelves. For folks with no education, cannot teach the kids how to play an educational game..........things are out there for learning, for some, but in the country, where you work in the field, you do not take after work classes.
LOL, this was to be a simple answer.
The move to Kingman, was Bill’s idea.
