Weekly Roundup - Living On Nothing Edition Category: Roundups | Comments(15)
Did you hear about the guy that lives on nothing? No seriously, he lives on zero dollars a day. Meet Daniel Suelo, who lives in a cave outside Moab, Utah. Suelo has no mortgage, no car payment, no debt of any kind. He also has no home, no car, no television, and absolutely no creature comforts. But he does have a lot of creatures, as in the mice and bugs that scurry about the cave floor hes called home for the last three years.
To us, Suelo probably sounds a little extreme. Actually, he probably sounds very extreme. After all, I suspect most of you reading this are doing so under the protection of some sort of man-made shelter, and with some amount of money on your person, and probably a few needs for money, too. And who doesnt need money unless they have completely unplugged from the grid? Still, its an amusing story about a guy who rejects all forms of consumerism as we know it.
The Frugal Roundup
How to Brew Your Own Beer and Maybe Save Some Money. A fantastic introduction to home brewing, something Ive never done myself, but always been interested in trying. (@Generation X Finance)
Contentment: A Great Financial Principle. If I had to name one required emotion for living a frugal lifestyle it would be contentment. Once you are content with your belongings and your lot in life you can ignore forces attempting to separate you from your money. (@Personal Finance by the Book)
Use Energy Star Appliances to Save On Utility Costs. I enjoyed this post because it included actual numbers, and actual total savings, from someone who upgraded to new, energy star appliances. (@The Digerati Life)
Over-Saving for Retirement? Is it possible to over-save for retirement? Yes, I think so. At some point I like the idea of putting some money aside in taxable investments outside of retirement funds, to be accessed prior to traditional retirement age. (@The Simple Dollar)
40 Things to Teach My Kids Before They Leave Home. A great list of both practical and philosophical lessons to teach your kids before they reach the age where they know everything. I think that now happens around 13 years-old. (@My Supercharged Life)
Index Fund Investing Overview. If you are looking for a place to invest with high diversification and relatively low fees (for broader index funds with low turnover), index funds are a great place to start. (@Money Smart Life)
5 Reasons To Line Dry Your Laundry. My wife and I may soon be installing a clothesline in our backyard. In many neighborhoods they are frowned upon - one of the reasons I dont like living in a neighborhood. I digress. One of our neighbors recently put up a clothesline, and we might just follow his lead. (@Simple Mom)

Methanol is blinding because when you metabolize it.. it produces Formic acid .
Formic acid is toxic to the optic nerve.
Isopropanol metabolizes to acetone roughly x2 as intoxicating as ethanol.
Ethylene glycol metabolizes to glycolic acid, glyoxylic acid and oxalic acid.. All are renal toxins plus it causes acedemia.
The reason ethylene glycol is so toxic to dogs and other animals is that it has a sweetish taste and they will drink it readily.
It isn't bourbon unless 1) it's a Kentucky product and 2) aged in a charred oak barrel for a number of years.
The micro evaporation that occurs over the years is known as the angels share. The deep rich color of bourbon comes from the slow evaporation and the infusion of tannins from charred oak.
They are lovely..
How can you tell who is who at a glance..They are so close.
Reminds me of trying to pick out Rob or Brian from my identical twin nephews.
Lotta work , neatly done.
Stair stepper with a purpose besides lifting the fanny.
I don’t think there has been a big shake since 1811.. They are expecting a big one any time.
INMHO you need to keep purr baby.
I have your location down pat.
You guys just shifted Biden to a bigger playpen.
Found these links on the treadle pump google:

On this page there is a plastic treadle pump link:
I didn’t dig into this page, will one of these days, I see hybrids, but did not see GE on the front page, still it is an interesting food seed/type site:

You had me confused, but I went to the original post and LOL, yes, a treadle pump would work as a stair stepper.
Now if you convince the people who have a stair stepper that the fresh air would be better for them.....hummmm, wonder if Delawhere can rig it to make electric too?
INMHO you need to keep purr baby.<<<
I am here alone and do not have good health, so if I got down and couldn’t care for it, it would die too.
It is almost too much even now, takes all day to feed them, at the pace I can go.
Those countries should be able to feed themselves but the land ownership issue and the drug wars make it impossible to have a decent society.<<<
As I dug into that site, I found it to be a real marxist site.
The simple fact is, at times, you will find more of the information you seek on the commie sites, than on normal sites, LOL, even if I do put a different spin on what they are twisting.
Food riots are an every day event in parts of the world.
CB, what a lovely sight, all that firewood. What a lot of work if you were hand-splitting it. I tried to talk my guys into cutting some trees down earlier this spring, but they didn’t do it. I suppose there might be some laying in the back woods, down by nature, but we haven’t checked. We do have a small pile that youngest son brought home from his landscape work.

Hmmm, and I can smell it at least 100 yards away... LOL
OK, fragrant bouquet... (is that PC enough?)
Night before we were to take off and convoy from Texas to Ft. Richardson, Alaska, (for winter maneuvers - over Christmas and New Years too) our Company did some heavy partaking of that devil’s swill... Drank till 4, threw up till 5 climbed behind the wheel of my big truck by 6. Oh - that 4” exhaust pipe with no muffler was sooooo loud... JB and I parted company after that. I have not forgotten that smell - even almost half a century later.
Shoot, it messed us up so bad we never made it to Alaska, but Homestead Florida instead... (Cuban Missile Crisis) That was funny, arrived in Florida with arctic parkas and mukluks - think we didn’t get some ribbing over that.
It could probably be rigged to produce electricity.
I’m trying to figure out how to make something productive from the stair stepper that was given to me.

I understand your concerns but...people that have pets live longer happier lives.
I have friends that have an Amazonian parrot..It came to them through a ‘will’. since they live about 80 years, it is in their will to go to a younger relative.
Perhaps you can arrange an adoption for him ...at a later date.

We just thought the rest of the country needed some laughs.
After all, he is foreign expert. (about as foreign to being an expert as you can get.)
Is everyone laughing yet?
