The easy assumption is that she serves as much as a beard as anything of substance.

Obama's smile is clearly fake, and the physical distance between him and that wife of his is very telling. She is clearly VERY ANGRY with him. Note that the couple to the right are not smiling, and their appearance with Obama clearly makes them feel awkward.

I think she was happiest when she was on the campaign trail before they muzzled her hateful comments and limited her public appearances which became very scripted. I think she desperately wants to revert to form once in a while to keep her creds with the homeys in the ‘hood.
