I love this story ... but I would think a *Texan* would be taking a bigger ribbing for wearing *I Love NY* boxers .... than having them pink. ;D

Bless this soldier.

Although Boyd has been praised for his courage, the 20-year-old specialist said he was just doing his job.

"I don't want any extra attention than the guys I served with because we all experienced the same stuff together; so I don't feel like I should get any extra recognition," Boyd said.

A fine young man.

Slimy left-wing media wanted to humiliate the guy. Meanwhile, most of those cowardly punks wouldn’t fight back if someone walked up to them and punched them in the face.

Welcome home, now buy some new underwear.

He will need to. The Military wants those pink ones as a museum item.

Adding an excerpt from the Star Telegram to your thread.

Currently without a girlfriend, Boyd acknowledged bashfully that some e-mails from women complimented his "nice butt."

But not everyone was impressed with his attire. Several anonymous critics e-mailed the Star-Telegram to say Boyd’s brightly colored boxers and red T-shirt could have made an easy target of himself and fellow troops.

Boyd was unapologetic about his choice of sleepwear. "The most important thing is to respond," he said with a quiet, even voice. "Every second counts. And any support you can give those guys means a lot. I was in a fixed position, so [the Taliban] already knew where I was. But if I could draw less fire [to] the guys who were pinned down . . . fine with me. They’ve done the same for me."

Everyone from the patrol made it back to base, Boyd said. But were his commanders so forgiving?

"Um, well, they were poised to give me some," Boyd said, grinning. But then the attention over the photo "got so big, so quick, that I really didn’t experience any negative repercussions."

Gates told a New York audience that Boyd displayed a "special kind of courage."

He added that the young Texan’s military career was "very safe indeed," even though the president might have seen the soldier "out of uniform" on the front page of The New York Times.

Commanders from the 1st Infantry Division, Viper Company’s parent unit, confiscated the boxers — but not to discipline Boyd.

They are expected to be displayed soon in the division’s museum at Fort Riley, Kan., he said. "I didn’t get a chance to wash them."

I think he’ll be okay. He wants to become a helicopter pilot so it seems he’s still interested in the army as a career. From what I’ve seen on the Texas news he’s been welcomed home with a lot of love.

"Boyd said he had bought the boxers during a New York layover before deploying and chose pink because he thought his friends would laugh. As for a bright red T-shirt he also was wearing, Boyd said he wasn't overly worried about drawing fire that day.

"The enemy already knew where I was," Boyd said. "If they want to shoot at me, then that's less fire they put on the guys that are pinned down, so that's fine with me."

What a great guy.

well at least he didn’t moon the talibans....I guess that would have drawn fire from those pinned down.

My home newspaper’s headline said “Marine who fought in pink boxers home for the 4th.”
