The word is out that the Obamas will be spending part of their summer vacation in Martha's Vineyard. "Many blacks from Oak Bluffs are elated that the Only One-in-Chief may be joining them. "People are going to lose their minds!" Tonya Lewis Lee says.
At the same time, there's also a bit of wariness among the wealthiest ones, an uncertainty whether Obama will affirm them. "Obama is more a man of the people," says a Vineyarder who's part of black high society. "He doesn't seem to identify with affluent black people. His wife definitely doesn't; she is basically a ghetto girl."
"That's what she says--I'm just being sociological. She grew up in the same place Jennifer Hudson did. She hasn't reached out to the social community of Washington, and people are waiting to see what they'll do about that." (New Yorker Magazine)
To call a Harvard lawyer a "ghetto girl" is absolutely ludicrous.
The dynamics of black society is very difficult to understand. We are probably the only race that has prejudices against other members of our own race. This anonymous member of the black elite simply said was what is said among her group.
If Mrs. Obama were light-skinned with hazel eyes maybe she might be a little more tolerable, even though she was raised on the wrong side of the track.

So some of the comments are putting down those rich blacks as being ‘insecure’ because they diss Michelle, who, after all is a Princeton graduate. That educational pedigree sure didn’t keep the white elites from continually trashing George W. Bush as some hayseed hick, because he had a Southern Accent, even though he had graduated Yale, and had a Harvard MBA.
She’s probably wearing the wrong undergarments. but, ewww...
I grew up in S. Central MS, and I don’t remember hearing any black person talking about ‘peckerwoods’. Heard it from plenty of white folks, though.

According to my Geography professor, 40 years ago, the Cubans looked down on the Puerto Ricans as ‘low class’.
MY GAWD!!! I knew it, I knew it!
A black co-worker called me a cracker. I just laughed at her and said nope I’m a redneck and she could kiss my redneck ___. We have been friends ever since.
Well, to begin, Michael had vitiligo, a pigment disorder. He wasn't "white," or "light-skinned" --- he suffered from a medical disorder. No black person would say Michael was "light-skinned," not in the sense of being born with light-colored skin.
Oprah is not "light-skinned," not by any stretch of definition:
Alicia Keys is light-skinned:
So is DeBarge:
For these elite black folks, it's skin color and blood color. One feeds into the other, reinforcing this stupid habit of colorism.
So true.
Although it is written by a Democrat, I must recommend the book Born Fighting: How the Scots-Irish Shaped America by Jim Webb, former Naval officer and presently a Senator from Virginia. (also in paperback.) It explains in easy-to-read detail the history of the Scots-Irish migration first from Scotland to Ireland, and then to the United States, and then throughout the United States, forming the backbone of our traditional culture from coast to coast. Since we are now about to be marginalized even more than usual, and since illegal immigration and other efforts to swell the Democrat party are making us a smaller minority, it's really time to let your children know all that we went through and contributed, not as overlords, but as workhorses in this nation.
And the other great book of Scottish-American history is How the Scots Invented the Modern World: The True Story of How Western Europe's Poorest Nation Created Our World & Everything in It, by Arthur Herman, a historian from Johns Hopkins University. It is just wonderful.
I know some people who went to one of her shows several years ago—when she took it on the road. They came away very disappointed because before the cameras rolled, when she was warming up the crowd, she had a filthy mouth...said crude things women just don’t say in public...not in the South. They didn’t like her anymore.
As I said before, criticizing what she does, what she wears, or what she says, is OK. Making fun of the body she was born with is not.
Forget the skin condition-—MJ wore WHITE make-up.
Shows a complete and utter lack of knowledge about any other culture. Heck, there is prejudice among American whites. Otherwise, why would there be terms like Redneck, Yankee, Poor White Trash, etc? And how about India. The caste system? Hmmmmm?
I agree with you. Used to watch her show but not anymore. Not since she got involved in politics. I remember watching several times when the audience was made up of upper class white women from the suburbs. I’m familiar with the “type”. I could tell from the way they reacted to her that she was the cool Black girlfriend they would never have in real life, but it made them feel open-minded that they like her so much. The same group most likely voted for Obama...
......Michael had vitiligo, a pigment disorder. .....
Get real, he was sujected to repeated prolonged dose or submersion to extremely strong whitening agents. The disease you mentioned is a smokescreen to cover his real treatments. It’s called plausable deniability

The active ingredient of these cremes manufactured and widely sold in Africa is the chemical hydroquinone. In America the FDA limits the compound strength to 2% but mothing prevents a quack, or perhaps a Swiss quack, from purchasing easily available hydroquinine and mixing his own. This wiuld be especially true if a vanity obsessed man with zillions offered eonugh money.

I always assumed that's why Michael Jackson went to such lengths to change his skin color and endure the plastic surgery to change the shape of his nose.
Black snobs! Who knew? LOL!
